Product Description

Desert Rose the largest selling pattern in the history of American dinnerware, made its debut in later 1941. It has enjoyed the world's longest period of popularity of any dinnerware pattern produced by a single company. The Rose Rugosa, rugged wild rose of poem and song was a natural design selection. The character of the bloom with its simple delicate petals made it adaptable to hand painting. This beautiful handpainted style pattern is still one of America's favorite casual tableware patterns. In 1964 the sixty millionth piece had been produced and Desert Rose is now on display in the historical Smithsonian Museum. First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy chose Franciscan Desert Rose for use in the White House. In Desert Rose, the irregularly scalloped edge of thorny vines creates a believable frame for the fully opened pink roses with their golden centers and soft green leaves. The softness of the design is further enhanced by its cream colored background. All pieces are microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe. Accessories are also available.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review
A true American classic, Franciscan Desert Rose dinnerware has graced dining tables since 1941, including Air Force One as chosen by Jackie Kennedy and the Presidential yacht during the Nixon administration. The china pattern is as simply endearing as it is famous-softly painted pink roses bloom amidst deep green leaves and natural brown branches in a casual, gracious style. Named after Southwest missions and the wild Rose Rogusa, the lovely design conveys a uniquely American sense of tradition and place.

This petite 4-1/2- teapot features the collection's almond glaze on a clean, round shape topped by a snug-fitting lid. A trail of flowers and leaves make their way across the body, accented by a sweet rosebud-shaped finial and a whimsical handle sculpted in the form of a twisted vine. Filled with four cups of black or chamomile tea, the look is relaxed and inviting, so it's perfectly suited to for everyday use and enjoyment as well as cozy special occasions. The naturally durable, chip-resistant earthenware pot and lid also go safely into the dishwasher, microwave, and freezer. Add the Desert Rose teacups, creamer, and sugar bowl for a delightfully coordinated tea set. --Kara Karll

Did not indicate where product made3
I would have wanted to know where this product was made. It was shipped from Barron's and was made in China.
I purchased it as a gift and later found that the recipient wanted the American-made model. I had no idea that there were different models - England, USA, and China.

Because of reports of lead contamination I don't think my friend would keep the Chinese model, which means that in addition to the $12 shipping I have already incurred, I would have to pay shipping charges again.

A very disappointing first-time experience of buying a gift on line. The one bright note was that the delivery time was terrific.
