About the Author
Beginning his guitar repair career in 1985, John LeVan studied under many different guitar repairmen to learn the trade. John decided to launch into the guitar repair business professionally and began training with various manufacturers such as Taylor Guitars and Tom Anderson Guitarworks. He started a guitar repair business in Auburn CA and later moved it to Nashville TN where John has a successful business today. In 1997, John launched www.guitarservices.com and Guitar Services Workshops. These workshops provide on-hands personal training for various types of Guitar Repair. The Workshops are provided mainly for guitar technicians who tour with professional artists, retail guitar store employees, distribution warehouse guitar technicians and guitar manufacturing employees. Now, John has taken his Guitar Services Workshop Manual and fine-tuned it to give you a hands-on guide using photographs, diagrams and sketches made by John. In addition, he has also included diagrams and photographs provided for this book by several guitar manufacturers and component manufacturers.
Customer Reviews
Great book
This little book helped get my much neglected bass back into shape. I didn't treat my bass with the proper care so it got a little warped on the neck, and just a few other minor things. This book helped me tune it up so that it sounds like a real bass guitar now. You should have seen it before, it was pretty bad.
Good info
This book has good info, but most of it could be found for free over the internet, it still a good resource to have though.
Great guide to bass setup
I've been playing guitar for over 20 years, and while I've tinkered with the action, pickup heights, etc., I never attempted truss rod adjustments or had much reasoning behind my tinkering other than curiosity. After I picked up an inexpensive bass, I was quickly frustrated by how awful it played, but I couldn't justify dropping the money on a "good" bass. I also didn't want to throw good money after bad with a professional setup on a second rate instrument. This book is all you need to setup a bass properly by yourself with tools you likely already have in your garage. It takes the trial and error right out of the process. In less than 2 hours, my bass was playing as well as basses priced 4x more. The book is well worth the price.
