Prima Keeps you Squared Away
Prima Games has done it again. Yet another very well written and wonderfully pictured game guide for those of us who want to find everything the game has to offer. I started playing OverLord II earlier this year and was running short of vacation time. So I ordered the game guide from Amazon and am doing a much more thorough job of completing all the requirements for every trophy possible. Thanks Prima and Amazon for all your services.
I wish, I had read the comments about this mini guide before ordering. Live and learn I guess.
The others commenters have it right, the guides small size is a major draw back.
Think old school TV guide or readers digest for size comparison.
If this is Prima's Official new size, this will be my last guide from them.
Size and content O.K. Print not so legible
As someone else mentioned, this guide is smaller than the traditional Prima game guide. That itself is fine for the most part because most of the time the graphics don't suffer. Having actually used the guide, my main complaint is the print itself. Prima has chosen to use a white typeface over dark and sometimes colorful backgrounds and the legibility really suffers, especially when the typeface is not in bold mode. Just look at the very first page and you'll see what I mean. When the white type is on a dark or black background I have no problem with it (20/20 vision with no glasses) but as soon as colors or details are introduced into the background it becomes extremely difficult to make out all the words.
No matter how good the content of the text is (it's typical of other Prima volumes) the fact that it can be hard to read at certain points makes it almost useless. If I couldn't read any of the text at all I would have given this one star. If there had not been the legibility issue I would have given it four stars (deducting one star for the fact that the smaller size factor makes some of the graphics and maps a little harder to examine closely).
If the Prima folks are listening, the smaller size was a nice effort but the combination of smaller graphics and the poor choice of text color over backgrounds makes for a less than average guide for me. I much prefer the larger volumes that I own for other games because of these issues personally. The only thing that this volume has going for it is its compact size for convenience. It should also have a more compact price as well.
