On December 31, 2004, the last of the baby boomer generation will turn forty. Of the 97 million Americans already 45 or older, almost 40% are single. Middle-aged men suffer performance anxiety and over-forty women harbor deep insecurities about their bodies. These and many other problems prevent baby boomers from seeking and forming loving relationships with members of the opposite sex. Yet, single baby boomers are afraid of growing old and dying alone. Patsy Stagner, in her new book, "Baby Boomer Bachelorette or, How to Have Sex at Least Once More Before You Die," challenges baby boomers to rise up and rebel against the status quo. She shows them how to maintain their mental, physical and spiritual prowess. Most of all, she teaches over-forties how to meet the man or woman of their dreams, and achieve a meaningful relationship and a fulfilling sex life.
"IÂ’m fed up with baby boomers being told the last half of their lives doesnÂ’t count," Stagner says. In her crusade to convince boomers to start a new life, she explodes many long-held myths about over-forty dating and sex: the necessity of self-esteem; everyone who claims to have a sense of humor actually has one; you should never tell a lie; itÂ’s desirable to make love all night; and many others. Readers receive practical and efficient instructions on how to overcome dating anxieties, shake off inertia, achieve vibrant health, and master dating and sex techniques designed to overcome problems associated with middle-age. "Baby Boomer Bachelorette" is not an instruction manual, but a personal, moving and humorous guide for the baby boomer journeying into the exciting realm of over-forty dating.
"Love, like youth, is wasted on the young," first time author, Stagner, quotes. Her short story, "First Impressions," about her over-forty dating experiences won the Katherine Anne Porter Literary Festival Humor Award. From that story, her fascination with "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette" series, and her experiences with Internet dating, sprang the idea for "Baby Boomer Bachelorette." She performed extensive research, conducted interviews with her peers, and drew from personal experience to create a book designed to bring new hope to single baby boomers all over the world.

About the Author
Patsy Stagner is a Baby Boomer who becomes upset when she hears other Baby Boomers say theyÂ’re old. She seethes when anybody tries to write them off as over-the-hill, insignificant, or asexual. She believes weÂ’re in our prime when we reach so-called middle-age and is determined to prove it. This book is calculated to make Baby Boomers rebel against the status quo, to enable men and women in their forties and fifties to realize dreams they thought were over for them, and to reach a level of fulfillment they never dreamed possible.
She lives in a suburb of Dallas, Texas with her dog and cat. SheÂ’s written award-winning short stories, a soon-to-be-published novel, and has co-written a diet and exercise book.
She plans to date until she’s 100, or until there are no men left on earth who will go out with her–whichever comes first. She credits her success to following her own suggestions—the suggestions detailed in "Baby Boomer Bachelorette or, How to Have Sex at Least Once More Before You Die."
Customer Reviews
I'VE GOT A LOT OF LIVING TO DO!
If you've still got a lot of living you want to do then please read Baby Boomer Bachelorette. I did and loved it.
Patsy Stagner, the author (and my bachelorette hero), is darn mad at the way society scans our chronological bar code, labels us, and puts us on the shelf with an expiration date attached.
After reading her book I no longer feel I'm hurdleing head long down a lonely road toward a DEAD END sign.
Patsy reminds us of the importance of having a purpose and a dream, and gives us the tools to get there.
Charting the different world of midlife dating
Single baby-boomers re-entering the world of over-forty dating will find Patsy Stagner's Baby Boom Bachelorette a unique guide charting the different world of midlife dating. From assessing 'baggage' and whom to date to locating bachelors and getting noticed, Stagner provides many candid tips based on practical real-world experience.
Good and amusing advice for dating over 40
I'm not usually big on self-help books, but I really enjoyed reading this one. The author is opinionated and funny-- and very generous about sharing her own experiences. There's a lot of good advice here on quite a variety of subtopics. The part about navigating the internet dating scene should be required reading for all denizens of Nerve personals and Match.com. It's also just a bracing, healthy take on life in ones 40s and beyond.
