Amazon.com Review
Equipped with strong serrated stainless-steel blades, these all-purpose shears can cut apart a whole chicken or fish, snip woody-stemmed herbs, or open packaging. Handles are coated with soft, textured plastic for comfort and a secure hold, and are designed to be used either right- or left-handed. A bone notch in one blade accommodates poultry without damaging the shears.
The shears also incorporate several additional tools into their construction for assisting with a variety of other kitchen tasks. A hook cut out just below one of the handles serves as a bottle opener while two metal prongs at the ends of the handles work as both flat screwdrivers and lid lifters. Situated between the two handles are a plastic-coated nutcracker and two rows of jagged metal teeth that operate as a jar opener. For easier cleaning, the two blades on these shears come apart; however the hinge is rather loose and the blades do sometimes separate unexpectedly when opened to their widest position. These shears come within a plastic storage sheath that is magnetized for mounting on the side of a refrigerator. This item is covered by a limited, lifetime warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde

Customer Reviews
Heavy duty, durable Shun shears
I love Shun and I love these kitchen shears. The whole thing is very heavy duty and feels of quality and durability. If you open it up all the way, it unhinges very easily for ease of cleaning. When you put it back together, it's solid again. It's very easy to do and does not sacrifice sturdiness. These are all purpose kitchen shears and I can't think of any improvements. The handle is made of some heavy duty plastic that's lines for non-slip. It's very rugged and utilitarian, but I'm not that hot about plastic. Luckily, it looks good and the quality and feel still can't be beat.
Quality Shears
These shears are great for all kinds of things around the house besides just in the kitchen. They have always felt sturdy and you can feel the quality when you're cutting things from herbs to chicken. I would highly recommend these if you want a pair of shears that you want to keep for a very long time.
Versatility and Quality by Shun/Kershaw
Next to my chef's knife, this is the number one most used tool in my kitchen! These shears cut smoothly & easily, they're sharp enough for any task you might want to put them to. They're also sturdy and comfortable, the plastic handle doesn't slip or slide. They disassemble easily for cleaning, but stay solidly together when you want them together. The add-on features like bone notch and bottle opener all work well, but I like the notches on the inside of the handle, which are meant to be grips for opening jars and such. This is a genuine multitasker and does about a dozen different tasks (and does them well).
The plastic sheath shown in the picture has a magnet attached, designed to stick to your fridge, oven, or hood. This might be handy for those of you without space in your knife block or drawer but these shears are magnetic themselves so I just stick them along side the rest of my cutlery on my magnetic strip.
One note about branding: Shun is owned by Kershaw. These shears are marketed as part of the Shun cutlery sets, but mine say Kershaw on the blade. Don't sweat it- the names are basically interchangeable. The Kershaw brand makes some great utility/pocket knives, by the way. I owned Kershaw knives long before I ever bought my first Shun. And if you're a really observant fan of Good Eats, you'll notice that Alton Brown's pocket knife is a Kershaw ;)
