Customer Reviews

Brilliant pop, a little too smart for the market4
Richard Barone, who was lead singer for the 1980s band The Bongos (were they punk, new wave, or just from New Jersey?), started his solo career with an exuberant burst. Lyrically he relaxed a little from the puzzling pop poetry of the Bongos . Musically the sound is lush yet dangerous, like a jungle, mixing Richard's superb guitar with strings. A few songs sound like aims at commercial acceptance (fat chance), but "Before You Were Born," "Where the Truth Lies," "River to River" and "To the Pure" are, indeed, pure of heart. One of my absolute favorite CDs of the 1990s. It's not too late to buy it now.

Richly textured music5
This is an incredible album that I appreciate more and more as time goes by. I bought this speculatively about when it released based on his Cool Blue Halo album and the single Number With Wings. This album is much more creative and thought provoking in my opinion.

There really aren't many albums like this for me, combining variety and quality of tracks, and pure talent by Mr. Barone.

You must listen to "I'll Be Your Mirror", opening with the cello its a very moving piece.

An original artist who writes & performs his own music5
Richard Barone is talent personified! He writes his songs and performs them and OWNS his music. The music itself is catchy and the lyrics complement the arrangement. This is a great CD to put in and go for a drive.
