Great unit for adults
The Game Boy Micro is one of the best units that Nintendo has ever produced. For adults who enjoy playing games while they are on-the-go, this is the one to get. There are a few pros and cons, but ultimately, it's worth the small investment.
Pros:
- Good battery life (and rechargable battery can be replaced)
- Bright, sharp screen (games are playable despite its size)
- Small size fits nicely in pocket next to cell phone
- Unless you have large fingers, the controls are easy to use
- Sturdy feel (less plastic-y than earlier models)
- Interchangable faceplates
Cons:
- Limited game library for adults (if you are not into Pokemon, you will have limited choices, but if you invest in a Flash cartridge, you open up your options to emulation and home-brew)
- Currently limited faceplate selection (for adults)
- Fingerprint magnet (faceplate and L/R shoulder buttons)
I give this a 9/10. With a more adult-centered selection of games, this unit would be unstopable. A few that I recommend:
- Activision Anthology (Pitfall, etc)
- Contra Advance
- Desert Strike Advance
- Eye of the Beholder
- Classic Excitebike
- Classic Castlevania
- Classic Zelda 1
- Classic Metroid 1
- Classic Xevious
- Phantasy Star Collection
- Super Mario Brothers (1,2,3)
- Gladius Galaxies
- Hyperspace Delivery Boy
- Mech Platoon
- Mega Man Anniversary Collection
- Metal Slug (1, Advance)
- Phalanx
- Rebelstar Tactical Command (from the makers of XCOM)
- Sigma Star Saga
- SimCity 2000
Awesome addition to the Gameboy's legacy...
I bought this little wonder after already owning a Gameboy Advance SP and a Nintendo DS and its worth every penny.
The screen and its brightness settings are absolutely phenomonal, a ton better than the Nintendo DS's.
Plus this thing can fit into any pocket in your clothes.
This thing goes to work with me every day and gets play time every second i can spare, with its amazing 6-8 hour battery time.
But the best thing about this Gameboy is its comfort. It is so small and light that it pretty much floats in your hands when you play it. The buttons and directional pad are so smooth and intuitive and you pretty much hold the whole unit with just your finger tips. Amazing build quality.
If you need a handheld for mainly home use i would recommend a Gameboy SP or a Nintendo DS. But if you need one for the go or as a 'second' system then the Micro is what youre looking for.
Very Stylish
I think this is great! I have the GBA SP and I love it, but it's hard to put in my small purse. Also as a mother of two I sometimes feel foolish with the SP and so don't use it as much as I would like, but the micro is sleek and stylish. I love the ladybuf face plate. The screens picture is much brighter and sharper than the SP and I don't mind at all that the sceen size is smaller. It's just so darn cute! Now my kids want one too, althought ther not getting one. It's just for mom. I recommed it for anyone looking for something smaller and stylish. Although I would worry about durability with children, but for adult/teens it's a good buy.
