Buy used from: $4.50 Released in December of 1988. It's considered the "black sheep" of the series for it's steep departure from the original style of game play. Yet the game has left behind it's own enduring legacy. The use of magic and other popular Zelda items like the hammer, originated from Zelda II. While not seen as being as good as the first game, it still drew in 4.38 million dollars.

Buy used from: $9.87 This one came out on April 13, 1992 for the Super Nintendo. It shipped over 4.61 million units. This version took the series back to it's roots and revolutionized the game play with not one but two unique worlds, newer items, and larger more complex dungeons. Ganon the main antagonist, (who was absent in Zelda II) also returned.

This is the first game in the series which does not take place in the fictional land of Hyrule, but instead happens on a distant island named Koholint. Ganon is not present in the (technical since) for the second time in the series. It has sold over 3.83 million units since 1993.

Buy used from: $18.80 On October 28, 1998 Nintendo re-released Link's Awakening for the Game Boy Color. It released one month before Ocarina of Time on the N64. It's the same game as the original, only now it's in color. There's also color dungeon included. A side quest was added where players discover hidden camera snapshots which they can then print by using the Game Boy Printer. It sold 2.22 million copies.

After realizing the complexity of developing all this on the GB Color, they scaled back to a 2 game set with interlinkable capabilities. Seasons emphasizes game play based around the changing of the seasons in general.

This is Link's 3rd journey away from Hyrule and although Ganon does not directly have an impact in the games, he shows up as a secret boss battle for expert players. Ages emphasizes Link navigating between two time zones.

The game features very minor changes from it's original SNES form, but includes verbal grunts and gestures. Nintendo decided to include a seperate side game of sorts called "Four Swords". This game unveils a new series antagonist and later spawned a spin off of it's own. It sold 1.81 million units.

Buy new: $116.95 / Used from: $27.90 This title was never sold commercially by Nintendo and was a premium for pre-orders of the eventual Wind Waker title on Gamecube. It's a direct copy of the original N64 Ocarina of Time game, but includes the rare OOT Master Quest sequal. Master Quest was the same game but with fixed enemies and dungeons which offered higher difficulties. It was promoted in 2003. Viewable in 480p progression mode.

Dubbed "cellda" by critics before it's release, many were put off by it's use of cell shading graphics. While game play and graphics are untouched, the games could be viewed in 480p progression mode.

The Legend of Zelda on GBA is the same exact game as it's original 1987 version with the only differences being the ability to save quickly, and it's portability in general.

The Minish Cap would fall into the "Four Sword" saga, where the main antagonist is Vaati, a wind sorcerer. This marked the first original Game Boy Zelda title since the Oracle series in 2001. The emphasis on shrinking to miniature sizes is oft praised by gamers for creating refreshingly new puzzle schemes.

The Gamecube version finally came out in December 2006, and sold approximately 1.32 million units. For a limited time, the Gamecube version had eclipsed the Wii version in terms of sales.

Buy new: $32.49 / Used from: $12.50 Released October 1, 2007 for the DS. Phantom Hourglass is a direct sequal to the Wind Waker on Gamecube. It's on the same timeline as OOT and Majora's Mask. There is now a limited edition Nintendo DS Gold with this game packed in for good measure. Gamers Should grab this bundle before it's too late! 4.13 million copies have been sold thus far.
