Editorial Reviews

From Booklist
One of three great garden genera, Primula rank right behind Rhododendrons and Rosas in terms of annual income generated within the horticultural trade. With more than 430 species, the genus is also one of the largest in the plant kingdom. Advances in the decade since Richards' original edition was published prompted him to update his work on this fascinating and diverse group of plants. Geared to both the home gardener and the professional botanist, this uniquely comprehensive account of all the species and varieties within the genus covers both basic cultural material as well as major new taxonomic and classification advancements. Early chapters discuss plant cultivation and evolutionary history, while the majority of the book is devoted to a detailed descriptive key. Supported by color photos, including those of obscure species captured in their native habitats, and the work of award-winning botanical artist, Brigid Edwards, this is a magnificent Primula primer. Customer Reviews

The most precise and beautiful information available.5
John Richards monograph on the genus Primula is the best book I have seen on the subject. I work with primroses every day and it would be much more difficult without this clarifying volume. The theoretical background is sound, the disposition is easy to follow and the illustrations are both informative and pleasing to the eye.
