Himalayan Blue Poppy (Meconopsis betonicifolia) (also known as Himalayan Blue Poppy) is a very robust poppy. It is native to eastern Tibet, eastern Nepal to India and Bhutan. In the summer, shallow-cupped, rich blue flowers appear that are 4 to 5 inches across. The anthers are a golden yellow colour. The Himalayan Poppies have a reputation of being hard to grow. Actually, they are quite easy to grow in the right conditions. They do well mounded in moderately rich, peaty, well drained soil in shade to semi-shade. Hardy in zones 4-9. The Blue Himalayan Poppy plants are "homegrown" by Hirt's and ready for shipment. Plants are shipped on Monday and Tuesday. The plants you will receive are potted and growing in a 2 1/2" pot. Do to the unique nature of this plant all problems must be reported to us within 24 hours of receiving the plant. It is common for some leaves to yellow in shipping, but the plant will be fine!
