Product Description

A compact, non trailing variety giving high yields of firm, sweet, aromatic fruit of an attractive yellow color. The yellow fruit do not attract birds, thus bird damage is much less of a problem than with traditional red strawberries. Protective netting is not required. Very easy to grow. Hardy in zones 4-9. Prefers sun or part-sun. Makes a great ground cover, also.

Shop Around3
I rated this product a three as the previous reviewer has since I do not wish to cloud the overall rating as I haven't purchased the product from this seller.

My only caution is for people to shop around. It didn't take long to find other sellers with the same product (Yellow Alpine Strawberries) selling 1000+ seeds for $4. The quality of the seeds may vary, but based on the previous reviewers description of seeing no sprout after a month, you may have better luck with another merchant.

The jury's still out ... 3

I dunno ... I just received these seeds in the mail. 10 tiny seeds in a tiny zip-lock bag ON SALE for $3.99? Seems kind of excessive to me, but I might change my tune when I see how they perform. I'm planting them tonight &, believe you me, I WILL report back on their progress ...

Hmm. Planted almost a month ago & still no sign of a sprout ...

These Seeds are Junk: Find a Different Source1
I ordered two packets of seeds from Hirts. I split them up and tried germinating them three different ways, but not one single seed ever germinated. Not one. I planted about 1/3 of the seeds right out of the envelope, and cold stratified the rest--some for about a month and a half, some for 6 months. Nothing worked. Zero turned into plants. None.

By contrast, some other alpine seeds I purchased from a different brand on Amazon had a seed germination rate of over 90% under the exact same conditions, using the exact same methods. Stay away from Hirts. As another reviewer pointed out: there are lots of other cheaper sources for Alpine Strawberry seeds anyway.
