Editorial Reviews
From the Publisher
Set in New Orleans and a nearby town, this is an expanded version of Getting Past Almost, an erotic novel about a gay man’s search for satisfaction and love.
Getting Past Almost traces a young gay man’s odyssey of discovery and sexual experimentation, as he searches for happiness and true love. That search begins in the seemingly peaceful setting of the small Louisiana town where he was born, and leads him to New Orleans. When he finally falls in love with the man of his dreams, those dreams become threatened by a new complication that can ruin their lasting romance. After learning to accept himself, the narrator now must learn to accept the unexpected changes in his life.
From the Author
Why a second edition so soon? I had nearly given up on getting the book published, because of certain content. Besides changing the name from Always Hot and Humid: Gay Erotica to the less obvious Getting Past Almost: A Novel, I had kept cutting at or changing some of those scenes. Now that the book has done so well, I wanted to re-release it with restored scenes, and with some slight improvements here and there. Some of the old scenes would not fit the changes in the plot, but most of them did. If you already have the original, great; you already have the basic story. But if you have not bought it yet, please get the new version. I am still glad I changed the title to Getting Past Almost, because it captures the frustrations, longings, and eventual satisfaction of the narrator.
My writing has been in Hot Shots, Guys, Campus Tales, and two Alyson anthologies: Slow Grind and My First Time 2.

Customer Reviews
Almost too much sex, but good.
The narrator (who shares the author's name) tells a friend about his gay sexual adventures. They start with two of his high school friends. Some other friends witness one of those encounters and make life hard for young Donovan.
After graduation, Donovan moves to New Orleans, where he begins experimenting with more gay men. When his parents decide to sell their house, he moves back home for a while to help with that. His time at home leads to more sex, of course, including an S&M experience. It keeps going from there, until he finally meets the right guy in New Orleans.
There is almost too much sex in this book, with little time to catch your breath in between, but it's still good.
Sizzles with sex and romance!
I don't mind a lot of gay sex, as long as I also get a good story. Actually, I love both, and I found both here!

An Erotic Treasure
Being from New Orleans, I gravitate toward books about the city and I don't know how I could have missed this one. The author sent me a copy yesterday and I immediately sat down and read it and I was impressed. It is quite, to say the least, erotic. I often have wondered about books that have so much sex but this one is special--it has a great story as well. The sex is very hot but the plot of the book is so good that even though you are reading some of the hottest fiction I have ever read, there is that wonderful storyline that makes it all that much better.
From what I have read the book has been published twice. Donovan Lee, the author and also the name of the main character, decided that after it succeeded in its initial publication to pull it back and add some of what he had previously cut as well as add some new material. All in all, it is a wonderful read.
I do have the feeling that I have spoken to the author and I wonder if it is who I think it is. At any rate, let me write about the book.
As the narrator, Donovan Lee, tells a friend of his about his gay sexual experiences we are let into the life of a young man discovering and experimenting with his sexuality. He relates to a high school friend some of his escapades and another friend happened to see something he should not have causing some trouble for the two friends. Young Donovan is ostracized and as soon as he graduates from the high school in the small town in Louisiana where he lives, he heads for New Orleans in search of love and happiness. What he finds is sex, sex and more sex and ultimately falls in love with his dream man. However his happiness is threatened and this threat could ruin his happiness. What Donovan does learn is to accept himself and all those changes that come with living.
To tell you anymore would ruin a good read and I would not want to do that. This is one of those books that you will read and remember for a long time and not just because of the sex but because we learn about self acceptance and being ourselves. I tell you that is one book that you will enjoy from cover to cover.
