Hotel Dusk: Room 215Hotel Dusk: Room 215
Buy new: $18.49 / Used from: $8.00
This excellent adventure game will appeal to those who miss good, old-fashioned adventure gaming. There's not much in the way of action, but the story is mature and deep, and the art style is fascinating. It's intentionally slow-paced and thoughtful.
Clubhouse GamesClubhouse Games
Buy new: $16.49 / Used from: $8.99
Sure, there's nothing ground-breaking in this collection of classic games, but it's well-done and fun. A few of the games, like Bowling and Darts, make excellent (almost Wii-like) use of the stylus and touch screen. Note: this game is apparently out of print (judging by the price), but it's well-worth searching out.
Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the WarlordsPuzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords
Buy new: $70.98 / Used from: $15.90
The DS has far too many Bejeweled clones, but this one is different. Each "Bejeweled" puzzle represents a battle in the RPG portion of the game. You match the gems to collect magic points and attack your opponent. It's like playing Bejeweled, but with a storyline. A really good game.
New York Times CrosswordsNew York Times Crosswords
Buy new: $79.36 / Used from: $13.84
No self-respecting crossword solver and video gamer should be without this gem. The game has great presentation, excellent handwriting recognition, and best of all - nearly 1,000 crosswords from the best source in the world. The puzzles are genuine NYT crosswords, selected and edited by "puzzlemaster" Will Shortz.
Word JongWord Jong
Buy new: $18.99 / Used from: $11.24
A fun variation of Scrabble and Mah-Jong, Word Jong is a perfect time-killer for busy adults. Especially nice is the Daily Puzzle, which increases in difficulty throughout the week.
Trace MemoryTrace Memory
Buy new: $58.40 / Used from: $6.63
Another good adventure, from the same developer as "Hotel Dusk". Although the main character is a 13-year-old girl, don't be put off. Another good story with classic adventure-game puzzles. It's not as visually distinctive as "Hotel Dusk", but it's still a good game.
Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day!Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day!
Buy new: $18.49 / Used from: $10.00
Brain Age is the stereotypical "adult" game for the NDS. However, it's not really all that much, you know, fun. Tracking your mental age is interesting, but there are other games that will keep your brain active and entertained as well.
