Product Description

Captain Ian Tew spent ten years with Selco Salvage in Singapore travelling the seas and performing salvage operations from the UK coast to the South China Sea, from the Persian Gulf to the Southern Ocean. He worked in storm force winds as well as in tropical calms. In Salvage, he shares fascinating stories of places few men have ever visited and unique accounts of salvaging that few people have ever witnessed. As a roving salvage master, he was involved with salvaging Al Ahood. She had been hit by Iraqi fired Exocet missiles, set on fire and abandoned, and was said to be unsalvageable. This was the first commercial salvage to take place in a war zone.

Colorful account of an exciting career5
I had the extreme good fortune of meeting a delightful gentleman, Captain Ian Tew recently. As a result of that meeting I purchased Salvage: A Personal Odyssey. If you are interested in reading about an unusual, exciting and diverse occupation written in a readable entertaining manner this is for you. Captain Tew is a real hero.

An At-Sea Technical Adventure Story...5
Captain Tew spins an entertaining and technically fascinating tale describing some of his adventures as a salvage captain. I had a chance to meet him on holiday in Curacao, and the joy is that he puts into his writing the same story-telling skill he presents in person! Add the many photos in this book, and it makes for an entralling read. I gave several copies of this book as Christmas gifts, and got very positive feedback from my friends. I bought Captain Tew's other book, "Sailing in Grandfather's Wake", a description of his sail around the world in a small boat, and found it to also be interesting and fun to read.

Well worth reading!5
Captain Tew has written an engaging account of his salvage experiences in Asia.. Mostly dealing with strandings, tows, and fires, he describes the challenges of modern salvage in a style appealing to both the layman and the professional. The book has many good color photographs, maps and a few diagrams, and is a valuable contribution to the genre. As a former salvage diver who has read most books on the subject, it's a better book than I expected!
