Customer Reviews

Almost Perfect Small Form Factor Box4
I have bought this shuttle sx38p2 on amazon because I needed to save space and being able to plug it on an LCD TV and not to hav ea huge desktop. Main Usages are XBMC (Media Center) and Gaming.

Packaging: great packaging, shuttle is providing all acessories. th ebox came in an amazon box.

Design: The design is classic and very discrete, the build quality is perfect. I would have like more thick panels but this is definitely a good little case. the dimensions are great cause it fits in most of the media center furnitures.

Build: This box is very easy to build, it took me less than 45mn to have everything ready to go. Great cable management. The documentation is well designed. You can put a ati 4890 dual slot or 4870dual slot inside, i did not try nvidia cards . no crossfire of course if the card is dual since you will kill the second slot. Be careful to have a video card that is having an exterrnal exhaust or the box will overheat if you ave a special fan o nyour card that is blowing inside the box like some xfx cards)

Noise: the box is definitely noisy no doubt about it, that is the biggest and only con. At Idle is ok, but as soon as you start pushing it, the power supply fan is making a lot of noise. Maybe better with a cooler cpu or by changing some fans in the box with quiter ones. YOu cannot have a gaming pc without a few cons with this size.

Temp: with a e6600 B2 @ 3.2 (equivalent to e8600 at stock) idle at 35, never above 51 when gaming, 60 max on both core when using orthos. The cooler is really doing a great job in regards ot the case size, my cpu bad steeping and heat generated.

Gaming : Rock Stable - Played fallout 3, torchlight, crysis, fm2010, no problem. xbmc no issues.

Media Player: no hdmi output, so you nee a dvi + an optical cable to plus it to a lcd. the sound card is able to send a dolby digital or dts signal to the receiver / speaker set.

Goodies: fingerprin recognition useless, usb to usb cable very useful and fast, they provide the cable with the accessories (great to transfer a lot of file very quick from another pc/laptop)

Conclusion: a superb box, and a great bargain if you pay the right price for it (amazon has raised the price), you cant beat it by building it yourself parts by parts. Upgrading it to a cool 45nm quad core like the q9550s might make the best combo with this box when they will be cheaper
