We'll Meet Again is filled with the ingredients that Mary Higgins Clark devotees will devour: fast-paced suspense, double-crossing villains, romantic intrigue, and a resounding showdown at the end. Harder to swallow is the excessive use of theatricals whenever the author describes a satanic like HMO, and its legion of evil doctors. The darkest knight of all is Peter Black, whose eyes "were cold, angry, menacing--certainly not the eyes of a healer." Still, melodrama aside, Higgins Clark still knows how to spin a good yarn.

Her heroine in We'll Meet Again is an investigative reporter named Fran Simmons, who is not unlike the bright, resourceful Dr. Susan Chandler in You Belong to Me. Fran has just been hired to work on a popular new TV show called True Crime. Coincidentally, her very first assignment involves an ex-pupil from her old high school, the posh Cranden Academy in Greenwich, Connecticut. Molly Lasch had been incarcerated in her mid-20s, accused of pulverizing her husband's head with a Remington bronze sculpture. The murder of this community doctor, and chief executive officer of a local HMO, stunned Greenwich.

For half a decade Molly claimed to have no memory of the event, but now out on parole, slivers of memory trickle back--and Molly informs the press that someone else was in the house at the time of her husband's murder. Shortly after, he is brutally murdered, and Molly is discovered asleep in their bed, covered with his blood and unable to remember what happened. The story picks up five years later, when Molly is out of jail on parole. Determined to get her memory back and figure out what really happened that night, she meets with the "other woman" --who is then found murdered in her car. Although Clark spends a lot more time on the superficial than the psychological (we hear plenty about Molly's looks but almost nothing about her jail time), she is a master of suspense and an excellent storyteller. This Is A Must Read For All Murder Mystery Fans
For anyone who loves the classic murder mystery story, Mary Higgins Clark's We'll Meet Again will exceed every expectation. The story centers on the socialite Molly Carpenter Lasch, who, five years prior to the beginning of the story, pled guilty to murdering her husband, Dr. Gary Lasch, despite the fact she remembered nothing about the night he was killed. After being released on parole, Molly asserts her innocence again in front of the media. Among the media, Fran Simmons, an old classmate of Molly's from high school, begins covering the story for the local television station for a segment called True Crimes. Molly contacts Fran and convinces Fran to help her investigate the murder further in order to find the answers to that tragic night. During the course of the investigation, tragedy strikes again when the body of a key witness is discovered only hours after Molly questioned the witness. To the surprise of many, the book holds the reader captive until the very end. This is one of Clark's best works so far. For a fast paced and intriguing murder mystery, We'll Meet Again is one of the best new novels available right now and a must read!

A "who cares" whodunit...
This book was a waste of trees. Clark spent more time describing the clothes her characters were wearing at any given moment rather than trying to develop their personalities. The storyline was quite like a vaudeville show, designed to make you hiss at the villains and sigh at the dramatic entrances of the wronged Connecticut socialite. Don't bother with this one.

In my opinion, the best mystery writer ever! As in all of her books, the characters and plot are sensational. Never a dull moment and as always, a surprise ending.
