The SeaThe Sea by John Banville
Buy new: $10.04 / Used from: $0.01
Good book. Everyone else in my Contemporary British Novel class seemed to hate it. It's short and to the point, about an alcoholic husband grieving over his dead wife. 3 stars
Brick Lane: A NovelBrick Lane: A Novel by Monica Ali
Buy new: $10.80 / Used from: $0.01
This book was ok. It went on a little long. Nothing spectacular. Narrated by a woman an Indian woman living in Britain trying to find her voice and blah blah blah. Best part about book is selfish offish husband. Two and a half stars
A Long Way DownA Long Way Down by Nick Hornby
Buy new: $10.08 / Used from: $0.01
This book seemed to be written by a third grader. I have found better literature in Circuit City flyers. Empty cliche characters. Nick Hornby can't even make suicide interesting
The AccidentalThe Accidental by Ali Smith
Buy new: $11.16 / Used from: $0.01
This was a great book. About a mysterious woman who just shows up to a family's house one day and impacts every member of the family in different ways. Each character is three dimensonal and real. Interesting plot Not a hard read. Well worth the effort. Three and a half stars
Atonement: A NovelAtonement: A Novel by Ian McEwan
Buy new: $10.17 / Used from: $0.01
Very well-written. The only book I have read by McEwan and it is interesting enough to make me want to read another. Post-Modern in a way very few other post-modern books are. Gives the reader insight into what the author goes through when he's writing. Three and a half stars
Small Island: A NovelSmall Island: A Novel by Andrea Levy
Buy new: $10.08 / Used from: $0.25
Again nothing spectacular but not bad either. Mainly about race-relations with imigrant Jamacians in post WW2 England. If you're interested in the history of immigrants in England and how they were recieved by the natives this might be for you
A Confederacy of DuncesA Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole
Buy new: $10.20 / Used from: $0.17
Got maybe a third of the way through this book. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't interesting enough for me to go to the finish. If you like reading about fat, obnoxious writers with superegos though...
The Twenty-Seventh City (Bestselling Backlist)The Twenty-Seventh City (Bestselling Backlist) by Jonathan Franzen
Buy new: $10.88 / Used from: $0.01
A book I wasn't required to read but that I wanted to. Not quite as good as the Corrections but close. Real close. Very realistic depiction of a family. Very well-written and serves as just one more reason why Jonathan Frazen is one of the best authors out there. 4 and a half stars
Einstein's DreamsEinstein's Dreams by Alan Lightman
Buy new: $9.80 / Used from: $4.00
Great book. Only had enough time to read about 10 stories in it, but am anxious to read the rest. Each story is about only about 2 to 6 pages and they are all about time. Makes you think.
