Product Description

The Lebed Method is a therapeutic exercise and movement program originally established for those with breast cancer to help regain and maintain range of motion, balance-both physically and emotionally and improve 'frozen shoulder'. It was developed by Sherry Lebed and Dr. Marc and Joel Lebed in 1980 at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was one of the first Hospital based programs of it's kind and now today has two medical studies published on it's success with more studies on the way. Over time they found that people with all cancers, those with Lymphedema and all chronic illness could benefit from this program and today over 600 hospitals in more than 14 countries have this wonderful program available to all people with any illness.

From Publishers Weekly
Former professional dancer Lebed Davis was an early advocate of exercise after breast cancer. In 1979, with the help of her two brothers, both physicians, she developed a dance-exercise program to help her mother regain movement in her arm following a mastectomy. Lebed Davis began teaching "Focus on Healing" classes to breast cancer survivors locally, and, following her own diagnosis in 1996, she brought the program to hospitals around the country. Her book, most of which is organized by quality of life issues such as "Emotional Recovery," attempts to bring the program to women at home. Most chapters present clear descriptions of stretches (with accompanying photos), dance routines (with music suggestions) and "healing visualizations or meditations." The "Combating Fatigue" chapter includes stretches such as "The Backstroke," designed to increase shoulder range of motion and limit fatigue from everyday movements. A dance routine offered in another chapter is called "The Showgirl Strut" and involves walking around the room swinging the arms "overhead like a showgirl with attitude." She also describes exercises for strength training and warm-ups for cardiovascular exercise, such as walking. The final section covers broader subjects like nutrition and coping with radiation. Not every reader will appreciate Lebed Davis's encouraging but sometimes unsophisticated tone, and those without dance experience may find it difficult to follow even the simple routines out of a book. Still, some women may find her focus on restoring both flexibility and femininity to be just what they're looking for.

thriving after breast cancer5
this book has all of the information to keep your body and mind focused after breast cancer surgery it helped me get through my most devasting time of my life. i sent this book to 5 of my friends and family that have been diagnosed with breast cancer. it was my savior and i recommend this book to every woman that has been diagnosed or has a friend or family member who has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Thriving!5
Thriving After Breast Cancer is a revelation to breast cancer survivors. The models used are all survivors, all ages and shapes, and all beautiful, even with compression sleeves on! Sherry Lebed Davis has done a wonderful service for survivors by bring out this book of easy and accessible exercises for women who are going through an extremely difficult time. It is good to see the light at the end of the tunnel and to know that you can come out healthy, vibrant and alive! I highly recommend this book to breast cancer survivors (thrivers!) no matter how long ago they had surgery. The chapter on lymphedema, alone, is worth the price of the book.

I am the Author5
This book also addresses exercises and information for those with Lymphedema. However when you go to Google, Yahoo.com or any search engine.......this book does not come up when you type in Lymphedema. It does come up for a lot of other needs like cancer, exercise, health, disease, fitness, etc which is also what the book has in the way of exercise and information, but perhaps people with Lymphedema are missing out by not including the connection to Lymphedema as well.

Thank you for your time.
