Average customer review:I remember reading drag racing magazines in the 1960s and wishing I could see those wild machines up close and on the drag strip. These cars with a short wheelbase and blown nitro powered engines were very unpredictable on the track. This was a type of drag racing car like no other!
Living in the Southeast, I only got a chance to see the blown, nitro burning altereds once in the old days, at the 1972 NHRA Gatornationals.
Steve Reyes' newest book, "Fuel Altereds Forever", takes you on a memorable journey with great photos and Steve's personal memories about the rise and fall of fuel altered racing.
Mr. Reyes is one of the best-ever drag racing photographers and his photos and first hand accounts make this book one you will not want to put down until you get to the end.
You won't go wrong buying this book!

Product Description
What type of drag car makes strong men shudder, women shriek, and kids cheer? A 200-mph, 7-second, 96-inch wheelbased AA/Fuel Altered, that's what! These supercharged, 2,000-horsepower cars from the bygone days of drag racing demanded the utmost respect, as did the racers who piloted them. Most contemporary Top Fuel and Funny Car drivers would quake at the thought of driving one of these short, ill-handling beasts. It took a rare (or slightly crazy) breed of drag racer to slide behind the wheel of one of these exciting nitro-burning drag cars.
Author Steve Reyes has included more than 350 of his favorite pictures of his favorite class: Fuel Altereds. Never-before-heard stories bring the action right to you. Relive drag racing's glory days through photos of rarely seen cars, first-hand accounts, and stories of racers and their cars.
Fuel Altereds is Steve Reyes' fourth CarTech title. Author and photographer, Steve Reyes was hooked on drag racing since witnessing his first race at Freemont Drag Strip in 1963. Armed with his dad's 620 Brownie, he began an illustrious career recording these freaks of the asphalt. Over the years, Reyes has worked for and been published in Drag News, National Dragster, Drag Digest, Drag World, Drag Racing Almanac, Drag Racing Magazine, Hot Rod, Popular Hot Rodding, Sports Illustrated, and more.

Fuel Altered Photos
This is a good collection of photos, but does not have as much background information as I was hoping for. Still, it's worth the money.

I really enjoyed reading and looking at all the great pictures in this book. I still pick it up and go through it from time to time.
