From the Actor
The idea behind making "Wine Noir" was to make wine accessible to people who just wanted to know more. The director, Salvatore Carolei and his wife, Renee' Flemings were simply interested in being able to find a comfort level with wine. After taking a trip through California's wine country their interest in wine grew, however, they found themselves feeling uncomfortable with their lack of information and the world of wine seemed daunting. They enrolled in a wine class at a local university and that only approached the tip of the iceberg in terms of what they wanted to know. Also, the experience seemed to reinforce the stereotype that wine was brain surgery, an elitist experience that was beyond their grasp. So as film makers they did what they do: with the help of experts in their specific fields, (sommelier, wine distributor, wine maker etc) they made a film. The most important aspect of the project was to make it user friendly which is what they were looking for when they were seeking more knowledge. The result is "Wine Noir", information in an entertaining, comprehensive and accessible format.

It is chock full of useful information and makes a great foundation to understanding even the most seemingly complicated wine list. Teriffic gift to bring to a friends house for dinner with a thoughtfully chosen bottle of wine. Great in a gift basket too. I think it would make a great focal point for a wine tasting party. It is a fun format that reminds me of a cool show that you would see on the Food Network! I loved it!
