The highly anticipated follow-up to the 2,000,000 copy bestselling inspirational book, The Power of Now
With his bestselling spiritual guide The Power of Now, Eckhart Tolle inspired millions of readers to discover the freedom and joy of a life lived "in the now." In A New Earth, Tolle expands on these powerful ideas to show how transcending our ego-based state of consciousness is not only essential to personal happiness, but also the key to ending conflict and suffering throughout the world. Tolle describes how our attachment to the ego creates the dysfunction that leads to anger, jealousy, and unhappiness, and shows readers how to awaken to a new state of consciousness and follow the path to a truly fulfilling existence.
The Power of Now was a question-and-answer handbook. A New Earth has been written as a traditional narrative, offering anecdotes and philosophies in a way that is accessible to all. Illuminating, enlightening, and uplifting, A New Earth is a profoundly spiritual manifesto for a better way of life—and for building a better world.

From Publishers Weekly
According to Tolle, who assumes the role of narrator as well, humans are on the verge of creating a new world by a personal transformation that shifts our attention away from our ever-expanding egos. This idea is well realized through Tolle's remarkably well-paced narration. Naturally, the author understands his material so thoroughly that he is able to convey it in an enjoyable manner, but Tolle's gentle tone and dialect begs his audience's attention simply through its straightforward approach. Something about this reading just seems profoundly important, whether one agrees with the material or not, and listeners' attention is sure to be captured within seconds of listening to Tolle's take on the universe in which we live. Originally released in 2005, both book and audiobook were reissued when Oprah Winfrey chose the title for her book club this year. A Penguin paperback. (Feb.)

Acceptance, Enjoyment, Enthusiasm
The author's recommendations - acceptance, enjoyment, & enthusiasm - seem to diminish in that order in differentiating between someone who finds a new purpose in living and someone who is devoted to a selfish and materialistic lifestyle. Granted that "acceptance" is crucial at the gateway to a new inner self. But the latter two traits can be equally applicable to pursuing a materialistic lifestyle. Perhaps a more distinctive approach following acceptance would be "others-centeredness" and "personal satisfaction." Acceptance seems the hardest challenge in a materialistic society. Once we accept our existence, we must realize that our purpose in life on earth is to care for others. In our materialistic society, an equally difficult challenge is to shift our focus to the welfare of others. But it is through this effort that we realize enjoyment, satisfaction of purpose, and self-worth. And enthusiasm then comes naturally.Love and Immortality: Long Journey of My Heart
Enlightening and Worth the Read
This book, at least at first, is not easy to get through. It's dry, written in a kind of monotone (which is also how Tolle speaks), and a bit dense in terms of language. But Tolle is, truly, an enlightened being, and for people who are open to what he has to say, his words ring true in very profound and helpful ways.
It's important to know that this isn't another "What Should I do with My Life" guidebook. It's really about learning to live in the present moment and have your life's purpose come from within rather than from the expectations others have of us. I have returned to it on many occasions to re-read and remind myself of how to live in the now.
Good book
I am still in the process of reading the book. Almost finished though,
It's a good book. But I couldn't help feeling that the author doesn't really take women's hormones into account. It's not so easy for us ladies just to be non-reactive and say, "Is that so?" I felt like it would be great in a fairy tale world. And I am sure it is MUCH easier for men to place this into action than women who are on a pms overload every month. Unfortunately I feel disadvantaged to try to say "Is that so?" to every situation that pops up. "This to shall pass"
