Review
“The requirements for any course taught is that it at least must meet the appropriate NFPA Standard. This book does meet and in many cases exceeds that required amount of knowledge…It is obvious that these chapters were updated by subject matter experts and include the latest information…they are current, relevant, and up to date.”~ Philip Oakes, Training Division Manager, State of Wyoming Department of Fire Prevention and Electrical Safety, Cheyenne, WY
“I felt that the chapters provided the necessary information to meet current NFPA Standards while providing a sold foundation in the basic firefighting skills and responsibilities…based on the content, currency and fresh approach, I would definitely utilize this manual in my classes.”~Battalion Chief S.R. Hunter, City of Bethany Fire Department, Bethany, OK

Firefighters Handbook:Essentials of Firefighting and Emergen
This book is much better than the IFSTA Essentials Manual. It does a better job on all the topics and also includes responses to Haz Mat and WMD incidents. No need to purchase another book. Excellent!
This is a well thought out book
This is a great improvement over the standard Essentials of Firefighting put out by IFSTA. The writing is better, the graphics are outstanding and there is great background information on each subject.
If you just want a textbook, purchase the IFSTA book. If you are interested in really reading and grasping the essentials then purchase this encyclopedia of knowledge and insight.
Great handbook
This is a great resource for firefighters. I went through the fire academy and spent the past few years using IFSTA Essentials to study with. I found the Firefighter's Handbook to be much more entertaining and enlightening. The chapters read alot easier and seem to be written for firefighters rather than students. It's loaded with more fire service history and many more tips and tricks of the trade than essentials. Highly recommend it.
