Bamford, a mannerly Minnesotan, uses biting sarcasm to attack the pomposity, inequity and idiocy gnawing at her.

VERY MARIA...4
Funny smart comedy, with the multiple voices that are her trademark. Some of the bits are better than others, but overall, really good set. I've listened to it over and over, and it's still funny.

MUCH BETTER THAN WHAT I'D HEARD...4
I was bored, cruising the web for something to laugh at... and I found it. The word on this lady is that she's annoying, uses whiny, nasal voices - at least that's what the PAID critics said, which I admit left me cold. And so I avoided her at the turn of every web page for some time. What an idiot. But after catching her on the "Comedy Death Ray" cd and loving what she did there, I opened up my wallet and bought "How to WIN!", figuring I might still be taking a chance. But I love her, she's both the most original & the funniest new female comic out there. Very intelligent, with great bits on America & the current slacker administration (Note to Maria: More of the political stuff, please... it suits you). Re: the hype about her 'irritating voices': I really hardly noticed a change i her delivery (meaning she's quite smooth). And I'm a 'guy', and for me 'Nasal'=IRRITATING. And nothing in HtW! annoyed me in the slightest. Other 'best bits' reflect her spotty employment record and those in which she relates conversations with her Mother and family visits home. If you're still unsure, check out the Amazon.com sample for the Comedy Death Ray album. It's representative of what she does, and it sold me. And because I think it helps to know what other comics I like (and don't), here goes: EXCELLENT: Sandra Bernhard, Lewis Black, Wanda Sykes. GREAT: Katt Williams, Lisa Lampanelli. HALL OF FAME: Carlin, Foxx, LaWanda Page, Dolemite aka Rudy Ray Moore. And finally, the comics I have absolutely NO USE FOR: Dane Cook, Sarah Silverman (the first 'cuz he's just an idiot - and Sarah because she tries so hard to be Smart, Quirky, Miss Urban Sophisticate that she's none of those things, she's just Jimmy Kimmel's (unfunny) girlfriend.

More greatness5
If you loved her "Burning Bridges" album, your going to love this one. A lot of new sketches, fresh & avant-garde material we have come to expect from Maria.
