Product Description

An exciting new Cuban Cookbook written in both English and Spanish by a native Cuban who immigrated to the United States at the age of three. This book is based on recipes from her grandmothers restaurant, Cafe Mima, which was highly regarded for it's elaborate dishes in Cuba in the 1930's. The author presents each recipe with colorful pictures to tantalize the tastebuds. The book is designed like the restuarant's fare having daily specials, main entrees, desserts and coffees. The recipes are easy to follow and have been written in both English and Spanish within the same book. This wonderful cookbook can also be used as a coffee table book with many colorful pictures that will help you plan your next Cuban delicacy.

Beautifully illustrated Cuban Cookbook with mouth watering pictures and easy to follow recipes. -- Alicia Corley

About the Author
Yoly Perez was born in Havana Cuba and immigrated to the United States at the age of three. The Communist take-over caused her family to leave Cuba. As with so many other Cuban families, the hardships and challenges of beginning again in a new democratic country created close, positive and loving ties to both the lives they live today and the heritage they carry with them. She has a Batchelors of Architecture and practices throughout the United States and Latin America. Writing this book has enabled her to tap into the peace and warmth of those childhood memories of tastes, scents and sounds of her grandmother's loving kitchen. And she trusts that the creation, design, and offering of this book come straight from both of their hearts.

Artful and Authentic, a Must Buy!5
I heard about the Cafe Mima cookbook through a friend recently and I must say it is a real beauty. Finally a book that you really can judge by its cover(gorgeous)!

Get past the cover and you will find an intensely personal and elegant tribute to the author's Cuban heritage. The book is arranged in Menu style, with specials of the day and a la carte items. Just pick a day and you have a whole menu presented to you. The recipes are straightforward and the pictures accompanying each recipe are artfully constructed; they have a very personal, handcrafted feel to them.

Ultimately, however, the proof is in the pudding - so far I have tried Moros y Christianos (rice and beans), Papa Rellena (potato stuffed with ground beef), and Platanos Maduros Fritos (fried ripe bananas). Delicious! I can't wait to work my way through the rest of the menu.

What's not to like? I give it two thumbs up (and five stars).

The best Cuban Cookbook!5
If I could give this book 10 stars I would! The book is beautifully photographed and the recipes are easy to follow. My father is Cuban and I grew up with Cuban food at the dinner table almost every day but never learned how to make some of the dishes that bring back such great memories of my mothers and grandmothers kitchen. This inspiring book has helped me do just that! I want to give kudos to Ms. Perez for such a wonderful cookbook and for helping bring a big part of my heritage into MY kitchen!

Beautiful book!5
I received this book from a friend of mine who knew I wanted to know more of about his heritage (and, yes, he knew I LOVED split pea soup)...

The recipies ,of course, were wonderfully and simply authentic, but I was surprised at the connection to a history I knew little about. The family insight was wonderful.

I also appreciated the interesting family photographs that connected the recepies to an authentic past. My pressure cooker has had a good time with this book!

Thanks to the author!

P.S.: The cover art is beautiful. I'd love to learn more about the artist.
