The Beatles AnthologyThe Beatles Anthology by Beatles
Buy new: $23.10 / Used from: $11.93
The Beatles had such an impact on music that it is nearly impossible not to know who they are.It is over 6 pounds and it's taller than any book in my collection! It ain't all due to text however as it also has tons of pictures in it,with plenty you've probably never seen. This IS the best book on the fantastic fab out there because it was written by The Beatles themselves quite simply.
The Beatles: The BiographyThe Beatles: The Biography by Bob Spitz
Buy new: $12.23 / Used from: $4.50
While it does have errors that put fans of the band in a rage,I can't deny that this is a very interresting read.Bob Spitz researched the Beatles a ton, unfortunatly making some mistakes along the way.Bob got information from about anyone and that is unbelivable people. It really is too bad that the book has some many mistakes in dates and such, because if it hadn't it would be read lots more.
Hammer of the Gods: The Led Zeppelin SagaHammer of the Gods: The Led Zeppelin Saga by Stephen Davis
Buy new: $10.17 / Used from: $8.81
Probably the best book on Led Zeppelin out there. At least that's what most people think.Detailed and Honnest,"Hammer Of The God" is a fine read annd best of all it is honnest and approved by the band, unlike Richard Cole's "Stairway To Heaven".I don't have a lot to say on this one.
Stairway to Heaven: Led Zeppelin UncensoredStairway to Heaven: Led Zeppelin Uncensored by Richard Cole
Buy new: $10.85 / Used from: $4.00
This is an exemple of a bad biography. It focuses more on the author,Richard Cole who tells not Zeppelin's story but more his(he talks a lot about the band alright but it really is HIS story).Parts of the books are either lies,Cole wanting to get the book more interresting or simply his bad memory as a result of the tons of drugs he took during that time.
The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock BandThe Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band by Tommy Lee
Buy new: $10.85 / Used from: $7.99
Motley Crue's biography is one of the most shocking, addictive and revelative books you will find on the subject. It doesn't really matter wheter you like them or not,it's about their stories and their excesses.Just by reading this you'll be forced to accept that the Crue is the real deal. This is by far one of the best R'N'R autobiographies to be found. Each members has their own chapters.
TommylandTommyland by Tommy Lee
Buy used from: $6.32
This is Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee's autobiography,he probably tought after writting his parts in "The Dirt" that he could write his own book.He was right,"TommyLand" takes a lot of elements from Tommy's chapters in The Dirt but he goes further He tells all about his favourite bands and he even gives album recommendations for drummers out there.
The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock StarThe Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star by Nikki Sixx
Buy new: $21.45 / Used from: $18.00
You want to find out what's a year in the life of a shattered rockstar? This is what you need.Nikki Sixx,Motley Crue's bassist and chief songwritter had a journal he kept during 1986-1987 when he couldn't have been any more addicted.Nikki would write nearly each day in it back then,so he could remember what he did the previous day.
KISS: Behind the Mask - Official Authorized BiogrphyKISS: Behind the Mask - Official Authorized Biogrphy by David Leaf
Buy used from: $9.94
If you are looking for a book on KISS,this one has got to be it.What's interresting is that the first part of the book was written in 1979(but only came out in 2003)during interviews with band members and other people involved with the band.It reveals about everything on the band and "Behind The Mask" is a captivating and interresting read.
Rat Salad: Black Sabbath, The Classic Years, 1969--1975Rat Salad: Black Sabbath, The Classic Years, 1969--1975 by Paul Wilkinson
Buy new: $19.46 / Used from: $4.19
There are plenty of books on Black Sabbath, but this one is good and it covers a great part of the career that is the early and classic years. Therefore you might want to look for a book that covers the band's full career instead.
Ozzy Talking: Ozzy Osbourne in His Own Words (In His Own Words)Ozzy Talking: Ozzy Osbourne in His Own Words (In His Own Words) by Ozzy Osbourne
Buy new: $16.02 / Used from: $2.07
This book on Ozzy has an edge,it was written by the prince of darkness himself which gives it a certain advantage. He express his feelings and isn't shy of saying things as they are.An interresting read. You might want to also read Ozzy's "No More Tears" book also written by him.
Moonage Daydream: The Life & Times of Ziggy StardustMoonage Daydream: The Life & Times of Ziggy Stardust by David Bowie
Buy new: $31.50 / Used from: $22.00
Bowie's autobiography is notably priced higher than other books on him but there's a good reason to that, after all it is probably THE best book on Ziggy Stardust covering much of his career and his life.
The Rolling Stone Illustrated History of Rock and Roll: The Definitive History of the Most Important Artists and Their MusicThe Rolling Stone Illustrated History of Rock and Roll: The Definitive History of the Most Important Artists and Their Music by Rolling Stone Magazine
Buy new: $26.40 / Used from: $9.99
Hard to argue with that one,it has it's place on the list that's for sure. The pictures are nice and so are the stories, for those who love the Stones this is a must read.It was made by Rolling Stone magazine, which adds some credibility to it.
Everybody Wants Some: The Van Halen SagaEverybody Wants Some: The Van Halen Saga by Ian Christe
Buy new: $17.13 / Used from: $3.89
The most recent book(to this date)written on the band.Once again it ain't the best book on the subject but it is priced decently and while it doesn't get everyone's approval it remains interresting. It covers a large part of their career.
The Compleat Alice Cooper: Incorporating the Three Acts of Alice Cooper : The Last TemptationThe Compleat Alice Cooper: Incorporating the Three Acts of Alice Cooper : The Last Temptation by Alice Cooper
Buy used from: $41.15
The books on Alice Cooper are priced very high so here's one with a more reasonnable price tag.It was written by the man himself and so he gives his stories and tells more on himself and his stage personna with many good informations.A good read but not the best on Cooper.
Guns N' Roses: The Band That Time Forgot: The Complete Unauthorised BiographyGuns N' Roses: The Band That Time Forgot: The Complete Unauthorised Biography by Paul Stenning
Buy new: $11.16 / Used from: $5.99
There aren't that much books on G'N'R,but this one is good.It isn't a "learn how to play" and it doesn't cover only one album like "Guns'N'Roses And The Making Of Appetite For Destruction",its a book covering diverse aspects of the band and it covers their career. It is unauthorized tought,as there aren't much(if any)official biographies on them,so this one is pretty good.
SlashSlash by Slash
Buy new: $18.45 / Used from: $12.94
Finally a G'N'R members releases an autobiography! It was about time, and Slash made a very good book with this one.It is very recent(once again at the time of writting)and since it is the only biography of a G'N'R member it is only normal that this gets any sort of attention. You can't get much better on the subject right now,so it is a must read for fans of G'N'R or Slash himself.
Iron Maiden: Run to the Hills : The Official BiographyIron Maiden: Run to the Hills : The Official Biography by Mick Wall
Buy used from: $32.58
The band doesn't have lots on book on them so it's hard to argue with this one. Also check out "Anthology Of Iron Maiden" by Iron Maiden which is an interresting read also.
The Complete Deep PurpleThe Complete Deep Purple by Michael Heatley
Buy new: $21.24 / Used from: $19.37
This isn't the best thing out there, but if you are a fan of Deep Purple you should like it.
