The Jamie Oliver Flavour Shaker is designed to crush, mix and release flavor from whole spices, herbs, garlic, nuts, citrus rind or even lime or bay leaves. It is easier to use and easier to clean than a mortar and pestle. In just a few seconds you can create and add flavor to all kinds of everyday dishes. You can make meat rubs for really aromatics roasts and grills; marinades, dips, oil dressings for salads, sauces and salsas just to name a few ideas. Simply pop your ingredients inside, add the magic ceramic ball and give it a good shake. The ceramic ball does all the work crushing, grinding and bruising the contents, releasing amazing aromas and zingy flavors. Liquids such as olive oil and creams can be added to create delicious dressings and marinades. The Flavour Shaker is sized to give just the right amount of marinade or dressing (you do not need a lot) so the contents can be poured directly onto the food. Four easy steps to great tasting food: add ingredients then drop in the ceramic ball. Next, screw the halves together securely, making sure the arrows are aligned and then give it a good shake. Open up and pour, scoop or rub on to the food. Comes with a spoon for ease in removing ingredients and is top rack dishwasher safe.

Jamie's Top Tips
- Don't overfill the Flavour Shaker; make sure your ingredients all fit into the bottom part. You can crush things in batches then add a little more if necessary.
- Use your mixes, marinades, dressings toppings etc., immediately for real freshness.
- Make sure you store the ball inside the Flavour Shaker when not in use--that way you won't lose it
- And finally don't be shy... give it a bash.

Jamie's Shaker
I was given one of these shakers as a Christmas gift while in Australia. It is really good, but you do have to be very careful to make sure it is connected together properly before shaking. I didn't - I was crushing some flax seeds and the ball smashed pieces of the plastic case away. It was VERY easy to make this mistake, and now the locking mechanism is badly damaged. However, it is great for crushing seeds and nuts; making a 'paste' from parsley or coriander (cilantro) leaves etc. I recommend it - but do take care it is 'locked' before shaking!
what's this for exactly?
As an avid cook this probably seemed like a good gift for me at christmas - but despite cooking twice daily it's still sitting on my shelf, having only been used a couple of times. Both of those times, it didn't do anything other than what the usual tools around the kitchen manage to do (like a blender or spice grinder) and wasn't powerful enough to crush or mince softish foods like garlic in a salad dressing, but it did manage to get all oily and messy. When I saw how expensive it was I felt guilty toward the person who bought it for me! I'd call it more of a marketing gimmick than anything.
Cracked after 3 uses...
I like Jamie, but mate, this thing cracked after 3 uses. First 2 times use was garlic and green chilli, then I tried some cumin and noticed a crack in the bottom. This is likely a one-off or batch issue with the molded plastic, but very is disappointing nevertheless. Its expensive too - $25!.
