My 10 Favorite Movies of All Time

Kill Bill - Volumes 1 & 2 [Blu-ray] (Amazon.com Exclusive)Kill Bill - Volumes 1 & 2 [Blu-ray] (Amazon.com Exclusive)

I don't think I've ever anticipated a movie as much as this one (I know I'm cheating, but it's conceptually one movie), and I remember seeing sneak previews of both parts and both totally shattering my high expectations. Every line, sound effect, and fight is perfect. This is Tarantino at his best.
The Dark Knight (+ BD Live) [Blu-ray]The Dark Knight (+ BD Live) [Blu-ray]
Buy new: $19.49 / Used from: $10.55
This movie reminded me exactly why I love Batman and why he was my favorite comic book hero growing up: he's smart, he's dark, and he has to make a lot of tough choices. It's the kind of movie that makes geeks proud and always makes me happy to watch.
Pulp Fiction (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)Pulp Fiction (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $6.70
I don't know what there is to say about this movie that hasn't been said a million times already: it's a cinematic classic. No other movie can compare (though many have tried) to its style of meaningless dialogue coupled with a fun story that re-defined the concept of intertwining storylines. Tarantino buffs may even be so bold as to refer to this as his magnum opus.
The MatrixThe Matrix
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $1.99
This was definitely the first movie I saw that got me out of my shell when it came to being a geek (movies like Real Genius were a bit before my time), and it did so in such a big way. It set a gold standard for every action movie that came after it and practically gave birth to bullet-time cinematography.
Fight Club (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)Fight Club (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)
Buy new: $24.99 / Used from: $6.50
Fight Club is as brilliant as it is trippy. While not as quotable as Pulp Fiction, it's still pretty darn quotable in a wonderful way. Brad Pitt and Edward Norton give performances that show the world why they are never to be underrated.
Donnie Darko - The Director's Cut (Two-Disc Special Edition)Donnie Darko - The Director's Cut (Two-Disc Special Edition)
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $5.94
I still remember my friend dragging me to see this movie on an overcast day in Austin and subsequently spending two days totally in awe of it. It left a huge lasting impression that wasn't quenched until I could finally own it and watch it again and again and again. While some purists argue for the original, I have to throw my support behind the director's cut - it adds value that really helps.
The Godfather - The Coppola Restoration Giftset (The Godfather / The Godfather Part II / The Godfather Part III) [Blu-ray]The Godfather - The Coppola Restoration Giftset (The Godfather / The Godfather Part II / The Godfather Part III) [Blu-ray]
Buy new: $49.99 / Used from: $44.98
I never saw the third, afraid of how it would impact my opinion of the first two much like X-men 3 did, but the first two are must-see and must-have movies, if for nothing else but for their influence on all movies afterwards involving crime or the mafia.
Wall-E (Two-Disc and BD Live) [Blu-ray]Wall-E (Two-Disc and BD Live) [Blu-ray]
Buy new: $19.99 / Used from: $12.74
I used to think that Shrek was the best animated movie ever, and then Wall-E changed everything by bringing back movies without talking on a whole new level. Aside from being gorgeous, it's unbearably cute and infinitely witty, and somehow neither of these get tiresome on repeat viewings.
Batman Begins [Blu-ray]Batman Begins [Blu-ray]
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $9.79
It's hard to keep this movie as high on my list as it used to be before The Dark Knight because of how well Nolan improved on the minor issues in this movie, but this film was a true accomplishment. It boldly explored backstory and character development brilliantly, and breathed new life into a character who has been pissed on in the name for many years now, before Nolan came around.
Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (Unrated Extended Edition)Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (Unrated Extended Edition)
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $1.74
I love comedies too much to not have one on my list. A couple of years ago, it would've been Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Nowadays though, it has to be Harold & Kumar because it's the only comedy movie that I've seen countless times without it losing its humor or me losing my desire to keep watching it again. God only knows how many times I rented it to show friends before finally buying it.
