Our favorite little red monster is the star of this delightful film that playfully skews the story of Cinderella. Originally aired on Fox television in 1999, the feature is a playful mix of human actors and Sesame Street characters that is an easy watch for families with 3- to 7-year-olds. Cinderelmo (he's a boy, if you didn't know) dreams of playing in a castle and meeting the princess (Keri Russell). Unfortunately his mean--but not that mean--stepmother (Kathy Najimy) wants her two other sons to go to the ball at which the princess must declare whom she wishes to marry.
The film is certainly focused on the youngsters (as opposed to the slightly older audience of the Muppet films), but there are plenty of puns and wry humor for adults to enjoy. The handful of songs are quite pleasant, as is the length (50 minutes). Oliver Platt (as a new "fairy godperson") and French Stewart (as Cinderelmo's dog-turned-footman) enjoy their roles with relish. Appearing in various small roles are plenty of the Sesame Street gang, including Grover, Kermit, Cookie Monster, Bert, and Ernie. Great fun. --Doug Thomas

My favorite Elmo video
My son has six Elmo videos, and this one is the best. The songs are witty, and delightful for both kids and adults- you'll be watching it too. The fairy godfather inspires Elmo to fulfill his dream, instead of poofing it into existence. There is absolutely nothing annoying about this video; no whiney, cranky,or phony characters. The message is to make your own dreams come true. The acting is fabulous and all the Sesame street favorites; Cookie monster, Telly monster, Bert and Ernie, Zoe, Baby Bear are there. Overall, it has a very good feeling-- not stressed out like Elmopalooza or nagging like Elmocize.
Henson Productions do it again
A postively delightful treat for the youngsters, with plenty of jibes thrown in that only the adults will get. Keri Russel is friendly on the eyes and Oliver Platt has a blast. No one is too mean, but nothing is too sappy. The humor is reverant, but kid-friendly. How do the Henson folks do it so consistently? Buy this; your toddler will love it, and it won't drive you insane.
Not for my 1 year old....YET!
My daughter, who just turned 1, has been an Elmo fan for a little while now. This is the only thing with Elmo that she doesn't like. She wouldn't watch more than 5 minutes of it. It's much different from other of his videos. It's more scripted and less animated than his normal segments. I think it would be more popular with 2 or 3 year olds, especially if they're familiar with Cinderella. I loved it and am saving it. I'm sure my daughter will warm to it in the upcoming months.
