Amazon.com Product Reviews
The award-winning Compass B500 adjustable folding booster seat is an omnibus tool for parents travelling with young children. It is constructed with impact-absorbing expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam around the head, thick comfort cushion padding throughout, and soft, durable fabric. Safety advocates suggest that your child ride in a booster as long as possible, and many states have enacted legislation to keep children in boosters well into school age (eight years old in our state). The Compass booster seat bridges that gap as it is designed for children aged three to 10 years old, 30 to 100 pounds, and 38 to 57 inches tall. The real innovation for this booster is its ability to fold compactly, and weighing less than 10 pounds, it is easy to tote and fit in the trunk. The six-position height adjust grows at the base, rather than the head, to ensure that the child is always fully enclosed. It's deeper and wider than other boosters for comfort, but the narrow bottom rails allow it to fit in sculpted bucket seats. The rotating handles and retractable cup holders are convenient, and overall the Compass B500 performed superbly. --Scott Teal

An amazing booster seat!
(...)
2) It has an energy absorbing headrest that also supports my child's head when sleeping.
3) It's very comfortable. It has thick padding that is easy to clean and removes for machine washing.
4) It has flip-up armrests that make buckling up easier and also a more comfortable ride for my child.
5) It has two flip-out cup holders to hold sippy cups and special toys (in my opinion they may be too small for some sippy cups, but they fit ours just fine). Also the cup holders are angled so once the booster is in the vehicle's seat they are level with the ground.
6) The seat adjusts in height to accommodate a child from 38" tall to 57" tall. The seat back raises from the base and always provides full back support. It's very easy to raise...using both hands, push in on yellow tabs-one on each side-at the same time and lift up the back. (I compared this seat to the latest evenflo, britax, graco and cosco booster seats. The evenflo booster's seat back also raises at the base but in my opinion does not provide sufficient back support. The britax, graco and cosco booster seats only allow the head rest to raise leaving a gap where the shoulders need to rest. I did look at the Recaro online and decided it did not have everything I wanted and was too expensive.)
7) This booster seat folds for storage and has a built in carry handle. This makes it so much easier to carry; not as bulky. The back does NOT detach from the base. (I did not want a backless booster, therefore this is not a problem for me.) The box that the booster seat is shipped in has a handle and two locks. It was designed for transporting the booster by air as you cannot use it in an airplane since you must use a lap and shoulder belt.
8)The Compass B500 can be used for children weighing 30 to 100 pounds.
9)It is quite roomy but doesn't take up more space than a convertable car seat. It features a "seat-saver base" which won't damage your vehicle's seats.
10) If your booster seat is involved in an auto accident, Compass will replace it FREE once you have provided them the proper documents. This is explained in the manual.
I am very pleased with this seat. I highly recommend this seat. I bought my seat from Amazon.com and thanks to the baby sale, paid $.02 for shipping. I live in Guam and my seat arrived in only 5 days! Thanks Amazon.com for treating Guam as it should be treated...after all, we are a United States Territory. My 3 1/2 year old son loves his seat...he's always telling someone about his "new booster seat" and all it's cool features. Thank you, Compass, for a great product!

"I returned this chair because it lacked tethers and LATCH. Although tethers and LATCH are not required for boosters at this time in regulatory history, I'd feel safer when I find a booster with at least the tether."
Whoa! Jeez! NO "booster" seat is EVER supposed to be used with a latch system and that is why the newer ones do not have them.
As the transportation Dept says: "Never install a car seat using both the LATCH strap and the vehicle safety belt. This restricts the belts from absorbing crash energy."
Boosters are for use with the car seat belt, meaning you NEVER use the latch. Some older systems could be used by consumers who NEVER READ THE MANUAL with both. But these are called "toddler seats." They could have both a latch which you use when you are using the integral harness , as well as guides for the shoulder belt to use later as a belt adjusting booster type seat, but in that case the manual aways says to DISCONNECT the latch system - and for good reason.
Without getting to deeply into the specifics, if you use both the latch to secure the seat, and the seatbelt over the child the child will move forward alone in a crash and the belt will not be in the right position relative to the child when it reaches stop point. When done properly with NO latch the seat (which is light) moves with the child holding them in the correct position for the two to four inches of increasing tension travel until the belt stops.
Again:
1) Booster seats NEVER have a latch, and it is not a questin of them not being required "at this time," there will be no such requirement ever, since it it is a known danger.
2) If you buy a toddler seat that has a harness and later booster capability, use the latch with the harness, but when you change to seat belt, disconnect the latch...AS ALL MANUALS emphatically state.
Good value for your money
We have this booster and it's wonderful. The seat is very thick and soft and my son looks very comfortable. The headrest holds his head just right when he sleeps. He likes the cupholders. It folds up so I can get it into the back seat of the minivan. The seat adjusts to his height.
One thing that's not mentioned which I thought was a positive safety feature is there's a reflective cording around the seat and it shines brightly in dim light. Whenever I go into the garage in the dark, the only thing I can see is the booster seat. It's so clearly marked. I was amazed the first time I noticed it. In an accident at night, a rescuer could more easily locate my child.
