Review
Since Green published The World of Gold in 1968, that world has changed greatly; and his updated version amounts to a new book - covering such interim developments as the severing of gold's link to the dollar, the establishment of important markets in the US and Asia, and the emergence of OPEC money as a force on the world bullion scene. Plus: the price run-up that occurred after official restraints were removed and Americans were permitted to own bullion, which briefly carried quotes to an unsustainable peak of $850 per ounce early in 1980. While this latter-day gold rush has increased supplies, Green notes (by encouraging mine-owners to work marginal properties), demand has been rising as well. There is even a trend among governments to remonetize gold, or at least to hold it as a major reserve asset. Much of the book, however, deals anecdotally - like Green's recent The World of Diamonds (p. 263) - with the people, places, and institutions involved in the mining, minting, buying, selling, and smuggling of the precious metal. We look in on the frantic trading action - like a Bruce Lee movie, Green comments - at the Hong Kong gold exchange; visit Mideastern souks, open 18 hours a day because of time-zone differentials; descent into Witwatersrand mines where expatriate blacks labor in damp, dungeon-like galleries at temperatures of 100 or more; tour Italian goldsmith centers that have mastered the machine-age art of mass-producing chain. No guidance for gold bugs - but a wealth of close-ups within the big mine-to-market picture. (Kirkus Reviews)

The amazing world of gold
To someone who is not aware of how gold comes out to final consumers or the industry, this book will illustrate, in a very interesting and easy-to-read pages, all the non seen facets of the most searched metal on earth. When you get jewellery made out of gold ,you would never guess that recovery plants must move over one ton of rock and material to bring up just a few grams of the precious metal... I strongly recommend this book to people of the jewellery trade and to those who are interested to know more about the strategic world of gold.

Well Researched
The author of this book did his research well. This book is
not a get rich quick scheme concerning gold, but more like a modern history of gold. It explains where Au comes from, how it's sold, who buys/controls it, why, etc.,etc. Interesting.
