Best of the Big Slicks
The National Geographic does everything with such style and literary excellence, and this guide is no exception: great maps, stunning photography, wonderful writing, nothing puffy or commercial. History, culture, art, and natural history are artfully woven in describing Miami, south Florida, the Everglades, the Keys and Key West. The section on Key West (my favorite place) is only 33 pages in length, but the writing and photos are more informative and useful than that found in many of the books addressing Key West alone. The lodging and restuarant recommendations lean towards the upscale--you'll want to consult other sources for bargains.
