The first thing you're going to want in a zombie situation is a weapon. A long to close range projectile weapon ( a gun ) is the obvious choice. Mine would be a modified automatic shotgun. Easy to reload, fast, and great at close range, but able to shoot at a greater distance than a melee weapon could reach.

A knife is great for around the campsite work, a back up weapon and an endless amount of other uses. My knife preference is a Ka-Bar, partially serrated for sawing things.
