Support Groups as Lifelines for the Bereaved4
Munday writes from his experience as a member and facilitator of bereavement support groups. His major thesis is that connection with others who have "walked the walk" is immensely helpful for those facing the overwhelming sense of sorrow and sadness that marks all grief. One of his key points is that the grieving process is an individual matter with no timetable and no right and wrong behaviors or feelings. And there is no right or wrong time to join or leave a bereavement support group.

The book addresses technical and human aspects of support groups, from setting up meetings and planning an annual memorial service to stories of personal interactions. With specific suggestions on greeting newcomers, choosing topics, and dealing with awkward situations, Munday's new book would be an excellent resource for training those who conduct workshops and facilitate group meetings for the bereaved. The material would also be useful to clergy, first in helping them better understand the grieving process, and second in giving them enough information about support groups to recommend them to those in need.
