Amazon.com Product Description
Outfit your household with the latest in karaoke equipment while also enjoying DVD films and traditional CD music with the VocoPro DVG-555K multiformat DVD/CD player. The device is compatible with everything from CDG, DivX, and VCD formats--all of which display song lyrics on a connected TV or monitor--to the latest MP3 and MP4 compressed recording technologies, which store as many as 500 songs on a single disc. Additional karaoke features include digital key control, a unique function that changes the key of your preferred background music (regardless of the source) to match the natural range of your voice, and such VocoPro vocal enhancements as professional digital echo, reverb, and delay. And as with most VocoPro karaoke units, the DVG-555K offers two microphone inputs, so users can sing by themselves or as part of a duet. Each singer can also customize their individual sound with maximum precision thanks to the independent treble, bass, and volume controls.
Though it's built for sing-alongs, the DVG-555K is also equipped with a number of non-karaoke-specific features, such as the five-disc changer with play exchange and a full Dolby 5.1 surround sound output. The former function ensures that you don't miss a minute of music, as it continues to play from one disc while you swap out the other four. Meanwhile, the surround sound setup synchs with the DVD player to create a multichannel home theater system.
The combined features make this a can't-miss favorite for karaoke fans who want more than just a music box. The device comes with a full-function remote control and carries a one-year warranty.

It's not as good as it looks!
This is one to avoid. I've been waiting for this to be released for several months, and it came in the mail today! Unfortunately it will be returned tomorrow!
For starters it is not Dolby 7.1 it's Dolby 5.1. If you go to the Vocopro web site you will see that they now list it as 5.1. It was supposed to be released with 7.1 as Amazon still has it listed as of June 21, 2005, but there must have been a last minute change prior to production. I advised Amazon and I'm sure they will follow up with the correction.
The second major issue it does not play mp3 songs recorded on a DVD, only on CD! I tried a DVD+RW with mp3 songs that my $40 DVD player has no trouble playing and it glitches like mad! The manual did indicate that it does not support the format on DVD, but they don't list this or several other limitations in their online specs.
The last straw is the remote. I don't know if the one I got is defective, but it's the weakest one I have ever used! From less than 10 (unobstructed) feet away, it acted as a suggestion device. It was like, maybe, or most likely not will the player actually carry out your suggestion. I removed the 4 new aaa's that came with it and used new Duracell's and there was only a minor improvement. A few hours with this thing trying to toggle through songs would result in even the mildest tempered person smashing it to pieces.
As of now Amazon is sold out of these, but I'm sure they'll be getting them all back soon! Thankfully Amazon has a good return policy.
On a positive note the Karaoke package is quite nice. Nice microphones, cables, and 6 CD+G's in a carry case (nice song selections too). As a Karaoke machine alone this may be a good purchase, but it seems Vocopro tried to do too much and missed the mark. In the future I would recommend they stick to what they know, letting wannabes and drunks make asses of themselves by destroying once great songs.
Defect, should not have gone to market!
This is definitely the only type in the market that is 5 DVD capable. Well, I guess it was too good to be true. Got mine and it wouldn't work from the start. Of of the 5 DVD slots, only one was acessible. Getting it to play required about 20 minutes of pushing "play" and "eject". When it finally did play, I plugged in my microphones and, by now, to no surprise, no sound what so ever from the mic. jacks. These were brand new microphones, I tell you. Fiddled around with all sorts of controls, went out and bought expensive moster cables and still no sound from the integrated mixer. After 3 hours, I gave up on it!
Next day, I went to the vocopro website and contacted support. I told him what was happening and he said, "Oh, there seems to be a bad patch of these that went out by accident. We have been getting lots of calls with regards to not being able to eject and no sound." Then I asked him if there was serial # that corresponds to the bad ones. To which he answered "No".
So there folks, stay away from this machine and probably this company. I hope vocopro doesn't make it on the TV show "Made in America".
Don't ignore the negative reviews for this item!
I was having a hard time deciding which karaoke player to buy, but liked the sound of a 5 disc changer. I read the reviews, many of which were negative, but decided to try it anyway with the hope that they were wrong. When it came, it buzzed, clicked, and whirred just like another reviewer had said it would. No matter what I did, it would not play the discs I tried (regular or karaoke). Then, it wouldn't give me my cd back. After some effort (button pressing, shutting it down) it finally gave me back the disc. Fortunately, I had ordered it from a store and was able to return it--otherwise I would have been stuck with shipping costs.
