Featuring patent-pending backup technology--the industry's first--the SanDisk Ultra Backup USB Flash drive lets you back up critical files, such as photos, videos, and documents with the simple touch of a button. With 32 GB of capacity, this USB flash drive will give you the storage space you need to make sure that your most important data is protected.

Plug-and-Play Performance
With plug-and-play functionality, the USB flash drive requires no additional software or drivers for your computer. You simply plug it in and it's ready to go. The backup application is integrated into the drive, and it is activated by pressing a button, so it doesn't need to be installed on your computer.

Two Layers of Data Security Ensure Peace of Mind
The drive protects your digital content with password protection and secure Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) hardware encryption. This means that your content will stay private and secure via data scrambling at the flash controller level when the drives are either physically removed for portability or stored away for safe keeping.

The data encryption is accomplished automatically without you noticing. There's no activation or software needed. You simply use the SanDisk Ultra Backup USB Flash drive like you would any flash drive, but with the knowledge that your data is protected.

Share your Content on Other Devices
You can also use the SanDisk Ultra Backup USB Flash drive as a regular USB flash drive for simple, safe storage and file transfer. Plug it into any of a variety of computing and CE devices, and you've got a portable and quick way to share your pictures, music, and videos with your friends and family.

Smart, Stylish Design for Ease of Use
With juxtaposed L-shapes, a bright red USB connector, and a capless design that exposes the USB connector via a sliding mechanism, the SanDisk Ultra Backup USB Flash drive looks just as great as it performs.

When you plug the disk into your computer, a glowing, amber-colored LED alerts you that the drives are ready for reading or writing data. This LED rapidly pulses when data is being transferred, and it slows down when the drives are idle, giving you a clear indication of the disk's activity. An intuitive interface appears on your computer screen to let you customize the way you back up your files.

The SanDisk Ultra Backup USB Flash drive offers complete storage and backup performance to Windows® XP and Windows® Vista®) computers, and it can be used as a storage device for Windows® 2000, Mac OS® X v10.1.2+, and Linux machines.

The drive is backed by a five-year limited warranty.

SanDisk 32GB Ultra Backup5
Excellent data transfer speed. Retractable USB plug is great. Overall extremely pleased with build and functionality. Before purchasing I have always leaned toward Sony Microvault due to the retractable feature. Now I have a second choice. As with all drives, 32GB does not mean this is the available storage you actually have 29.8GB available. I have briefly used the backup feature. Basically you can select any directory and the Flash Dive will back that directory up by pressing the button on the Flash drive. There are additional feature that allow for customizing the backup process. Hope this helps somebody.

Works well, nice way to backup all your pics and music4
Some of the reviewers here don't understand how to use this flash drive. The software automatically launches when you plug it in thus there is no need for instructions...it's totally self-explanatory. I bought this to make a 2nd backup of my pictures and music that I could store offsite, leaving my external HD backup as my main on-site backup device. It's large enough to hold the last 10 years of pictures and music I've collected. The software is clear and functional, it's not a fast flash drive but for the size it is fine. There are no fast flash drives in this size at the moment compared to drives much smaller. It took about 2 hours to backup about 5000 hi-res photos and 3000 songs. It then went to my office away from my home where it will sit as a $90 insurance policy against my primary backup system failing. I plan on updating it every quarter or so with the understanding that this is a backup of a backup. It's worth it, more convenient and safer than the online backup companies out there that cost this much or more for a single year. It won't be long before backup external hard drives are a thing of the past and everyone is using large flash memory to make a more permanent and stable backup of their computers and files.

Not upset but not pleased either2
I purchased a SanDisk Ultra Backup 32 GB from Amazon/Outlet last week. It arrived a couple of days ago in good condition and it works, but I can't say that I'm a fan of the product! I own nearly a dozen USB memory sticks of lower capacity, none made by Sandisk. This is the first of them that is unencapsulated--that is, the shell is not filled with epoxy. This construction makes the unit less physically rugged than the others. This is my first U3 device. U3 USB devices come with pre-installed software. In this case, the software enables the device to perform file backups. I guess the writers of this software believe that the user interface is self explanatory; it is not. The unit absolutely requires a manual but none is included in the package, none is stored in the device, and as far as I can tell, none is available for download either from SanDisk's Web site or the U3 consortium's Web site. Yes, I've been able to learn a lot by poking around Web sites, reading FAQs, and making my own mistakes, but this time-consuming adventure should not be necessary.

One of the most frustrating aspects of the device is how long backups appear to take. I can't quote figures on the required time, but updating an existing backup of a partition to which I had added only a few relatively small files took about 1/2 hour. Worse yet, there is no easy way to learn when a backup has been completed. You have to figure out how to open the backup application's main menu and see whether the "backup complete" button is displayed.

As with any external mass-storage device, you should never, never, never unplug the device while there is a possibility than writes to memory might be taking place. Failure to observe this precaution, which I found nowhere in any of the on-line documentation, can render the device useless and unrepairable! The backup application includes a "safely remove the backup device" click option, BUT be warned that this option does not work if you are displaying a directory of the memory stick with Windows Explorer (aka the file manager). You must close the file manager before the "OK to remove" popup box appears.

All in all, I give the device failing grades for software documentation and backup speed. I suggest that you purchase a memory stick that does not include backup software and use separately purchased software to perform your backups.
