Product Description

Sports conditioning has advanced tremendously since the era when a "no pain, no gain" philosophy guided the training regimens of athletes. Dr. Tudor Bompa pioneered most of these breakthroughs, proving long ago that it’s not only how much and how hard an athlete works but also when and what work is done that determines the athlete’s conditioning level.

In Periodization Training for Sports, Bompa demonstrates how to use periodized workouts in order to peak at optimal times by manipulating six different training phases: anatomical adaptation, hypertrophy, maximum strength, conversion to power, maintenance, and transition. Coaches and athletes in 32 sports have at their fingertips a proven program that is sure to produce the best results. No more guessing about preseason conditioning, in-season workloads, or appropriate rest and recovery periods; now it’s simply a matter of identifying and implementing the information in this book.

Presented in a useful format with plenty of ready-made training schedules, Periodization Training for Sports is your best conditioning planner if you want to know what works, why it works, and when it works in the training room and on the practice field. Get in better shape next season, and see the benefits of smarter workouts in competition.

Another great book on Periodization!5
A very well written book on Periodization for sports training. Dr. Bompa has all the bases covered in this book for a complete sports training program. The book includes a sections on training, and theory of Periodization, structure, and format or Periodization for individual sports [ covers every major sport ], an exercises selection, along with some pre, and post exercise information. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a solid training program tailored to their specific sports needs. Another good book on Periodization.

Good book on Periodization4
This is a very good book on strength training in that it relates specifically to many different sports. The only problem is that there are complicated terms, abbreviations, and vocabulary that are constantly used (with definitions and explanations upon first reference only). A glossary in the back would be a big help. Overall, this covers a lot of sport specific training methods which allows the reader to more or less pick and choose the best practices for his or her own training program. It's been a big help for me, although I recommend staying away from the plyometrics section.

Everything you need to know.5
This book explains in depth the theory behind periodization and long term training for sport specific performance. The reading is detailed enough to give u a good foundation on how muscle are made and how they function in various types of performance environments. This book should be required reading for anyone coaching youth sports. Since the book is about training for sport, there are several examples given covering a wide variety of sports, however this can become confusing (too much information that seemingly doesn't apply). It's best to read it with a particular sport in mind and create relationships between sports/examples and your sport. Also, take lots of notes and read every chapter, not just the ones you think you need. Great book!
