Customer Reviews
The Black Deck is pretty cool
To start with, I'm reviewing this deck of cards as a magician (which is was I believe was the target audience for the deck). In general, this is a fine deck of cards, the stock seems to be of standard decks and the finish is the usual airflow finish, so don't expect these to last any longer than your normal deck of bikes. As for the gaff cards, quite a few effects can be done with them, but you already need to be familiar with the gaffs, as no instructions are provided on how to use them. On the bright side, if you contact the actual makers of the deck (magic makers) and send them an e-mail, they will send you a PDF with tricks and Ideas for the various gaffs. I've enjoyed using them, and I think you will to.
It's an imitation of the real thing
Unfortunately Magic Makers and Rob Stiff ripped off the original black deck by Ellusionist which is called the Bicycle Black Tiger. USPC put some restrictions on MM in the manufacture, and the result is the best they could come up with.
Not much.
The cards are thin stocked and don't have the fine UV500 finish of the Ellusionist brand decks. Nor do they have the understated and gorgeous artwork of the Tiger. My recommendation is the several outrageous and quality driven e-deck lines that Ellusionist has come up with. See them now by punching in "ELLUSIONIST" to Amazon's search function.
Good for playing, Not good for magic
I am an amateur magician who is thinking of going pro in the next few years. I must say that the gaff cards are great, but the deck did not last more than a day in my hands before it started clumping. It was unusable for magic of flourishing by the third day, but it looks great and I still use it for games. I would not invest in one of these exclusively for magic unless it's a one-show gig or something, but for the card player this is a really cool deck.
