About the Author

Lucianna Samu:
Lucianna Samu spent 10 years as a decorative painter in the New York Metropolitan area working for some of the best and brightest designers and architects in NY.  She put away her paint brushes 5 years and moved to Saratoga Springs, New York ago to become an Interior Designer, Space Planner and Color expert.
 
She spent several years creating projects of Benjamin Moore
Paints and has been a frequent contributor to many magazines and books.  She currently lives in the 200 year old farmhouse house she and her husband recently renovated just outside Saratoga on the Hudson River.  She is currently designing the barn to bring her horse's home.

Mark Samu:
Mark Samu has been an Architectural Photographer for 25 years working all over the country for architects, designers, and magazines.  He is a graduate if the School of Visual Arts in NYC. 
Mark & Lu:
Mark and Lu Samu have been married for 24 years and have completely or partially renovated 6 houses in the last 10.  The first major undertaking they did was a 200 year old Carriage House in Blue Point New York.  Having gone on there first vacation in 10 years to celebrate to completion on the way back from Saratoga Springs they decided if they could get the right price for the house they would sell and move upstate NY.  They sold the
house in a week and haven't looked back or slowed down since.  Although they don't fit the profile of "house flippers" (they do really think they are going to live in the houses they renovate), they have moved their whole life lock, stock, and barrel (and teenage son) 4 times in the last 6 years.  They do think they are going to stay in the 206 year old farmhouse on the Hudson River they just finished renovating.  This may be true as they are building a barn to bring their 2 horse (Leroy & Mr. Peabody) home! They began their professional relationship while living on hot dogs and crackers while Lu practiced painting and Mark practiced photography of her painting and within a year they both had fabulous portfolios.  Combing their individual talents together they started to produce projects for companies such as Benjamin Moore and many shelter magazines.  In the last few years they have contributed many complete projects and images to Creative Homeowner Press for a variety of books.  They are very excited to be working on this book together.

My wifes decorating Bible5
Can't Fail Room Makeovers

My wife and I have been renovating and decorating our farmhouse for 8 years. Some of our work is good and some not so good.
Last December I happened upon this book and bought it for my wife as a Christmas present. I liked the pictures and the size of the book.

A few weeks later I heard heard chuckling in another room and asked what was so funny. She was reading "Can't Fail Room Makeovers" and started going on and on about how interesting and funny it was. She also said there were several things in it she wanted to try. I read a few pages and instead of what I thought would be very dry instructions, were real life trials of a real decorator. It was really quite fun! Since then, at least once a week, my wife brings me her new "bible" and says lets try this.

Just so you know, at the authors suggestion,we now have a "Command Central" in our house and can't believe how much it helps our day to day existence. I think our house will take on a whole new feeling with the help of this book. Thanks!!!

A Must For Any Decorating Enthusiast5
Since purchasing the book "Paint Saves the Day" by Lucianna and Mark Samu, I became an instant fan. I decided to also try "Can't Fail Room Make-overs" by the same authors and am equally impressed!

Lucianna writes in a down to earth language that even the most oblivious new decorating beginner can understand and latch on to. What a delightful style filled with personal quips such as "Tah Dah!". Truly enjoyable and hardly the typical boring decorating book. Combined with exquisite photography, it made for a great and enlightened read.

The whole premise of the book is how to achieve high end designer looks without the designer price and they do a spectacular job! From the front entrance to the floors and windows, they go the extra mile to helping you understand the importance of each design element so that you develop the tools to re-decorate any room yourself. Aside from that, the rooms are just gorgeous and have given me a few new ideas of my own!

I had many surprising "Ah Ha!" moments upon discovering additional information such as finding hidden storage/display space. I had no clue and certainly have to include this trick in my own decorating.

I highly recommend this book as it easily serves as my new "decorating assistant" since it will be a resource I come back to over and over again.

Excellent Book for Any Self Motivated Home Owner5
I am not an expert, pro, nor experienced decorator! I only wanted to have some guidance in redoing our home. I desired for it to look like adults actually do live there! In our late 30's one's home should not look like a college dorm after all! This is a great guidance tool, was easy to read and reasonable, clean in appearance and well thought out design ideas shown. Will not break the bank with designs I have chosen to implement and they will be easy to execute with time and patience (after all I have only had the book 2 days!). It will not replace my HGTV addiction, however it is a wonderful complementary tool!
