Product Description
Calming Tea is a safe and time-tested Ayurvedic formula designed to ease stress and tension, encouraging a state of relaxed alertness without drowsiness. This healing formula contains organic chamomile (matricaria recutita), an herbal nervine that supports, soothes and rejuvenates the nerves. Known for its mild, apple-like flavor, chamomile has been used as a calming agent for centuries and is widely regarded for the way in which it helps compose the mind and cool the body. Organic lemon grass is also included in this formula, as it is a popular antispasmodic and mild anti-irritant. The herbal blend is complemented with bacopa leaf (gotu kola), a healing nerve tonic that helps promote blood flow, supports the nervous system, and has been shown to boost the memory. A favorite nervine of Western herbalism, this leaf is also known as a cardio tonic that scientific studies have shown to be particularly effective in boosting cognitive functions and calming over-active children. Calming Tea also includes organic hibiscus flower, which helps cool the body, and organic fennel seed, which aids in calming the muscles, improving digestion, and calming flatulence and stomach troubles. Calming Tea will help you stay calm throughout the day and is also great for children. From the Manufacturer
Yogi – About the brand
Our story begins in 1969 when Yogi Bhajan, an inspired and inspiring teacher of holistic living, started teaching yoga in America. He shared the wisdom and knowledge of Ayurveda and healthy living that he had mastered in India with his students while serving a specially spiced tea, which they affectionately named "Yogi Tea." The recipe contained five traditional Ayurvedic spices: cardamom seed, cinnamon bark, clove bud, ginger root and black pepper. When blended and brewed, these delicious spices leave you feeling vibrant and alive, while boosting overall well-being. Intrigued by the complex flavor and inherent health benefits of this unique combination of spices, it wasn't long before several of the yogi's students were inspired to brew their own "Yogi Tea."
In 1984 this grassroots endeavor blossomed into the Yogi Tea Company. Packages of the rough, dried spices began to appear in natural foods stores throughout Southern California. As demand increased, the spices were more finely ground, packaged and sealed into individual tea bags. By 1986, Yogi Tea was distributed nationwide in three flavors.
Yogi has continued to expand and evolve our tea offerings to address specific health needs by creating specialized herbal formulas, blended for both flavor and purpose. Today, Yogi has nearly 60 tea blends, many of which are created using the five original Yogi spices.
Yogi's expertise in sensual well-being has inspired our newest offering, Yogi cereals. As with our teas, Yogi cereals are created with purpose and blended to enhance the health of mind, body and spirit, while enlivening your senses with delightful flavors.
Whether you need to jump start the day, recover from physical activity, calm your mind and clarify thoughts, or revive the spirit and reflect, there's a Yogi tea or cereal to meet your specific needs.
The holistic teachings of Ayurveda and healthy living are the inspiration behind Yogi. These teachings continue to inform how we develop our products, and we honor and reflect them through the Yogi Principles.
Yogi Principles- Tasting great is essential, but it isn't enough. If what we make doesn't taste great and leave you feeling great, we won't make it.
- We think before we blend or bake. How will our recipes work with body and mind?
- Health is found in nature. We work with what nature already offers rather than trying to concoct it. We don't have laboratories, we have kitchens.
- Creative combinations can optimize what nature has to offer. Ever added Goji Berry to Ginger? They work together to produce a remarkably fresh and innovative taste... and a remarkable level of energy.
- Whenever possible, we work with wholes, not parts. We don't add vitamin C. We add Indian Gooseberry, which is naturally rich in vitamin C.
About the Brand
In 1969, Yogi Bhajan, an inspired and inspiring spiritual leader, began teaching Kundalini Yoga in America. He shared the knowledge of Ayurveda and healthy living that he had mastered in India. After each class he would serve a special spice tea to his students, which they affectionately named "Yogi Tea." The recipe contained five traditional Ayurvedic spices: cardamom seed, cinnamon bark, clove bud, ginger root and black pepper. Given the unique, healthful properties of these delicious spices, they are still included in many Yogi Tea formulas as an added boost for overall well-being.
Ayurveda (science of life) is a comprehensive philosophy and health system developed 5,000 years ago in India. Ayurvedic medicine combines natural therapies with a balanced approach to treatment of disease. Ayurvedic philosophy places equal emphasis on body, mind and spirit as it strives to restore the innate harmony of the individual.
In the 1970s, small businesses began to take root under the inspiration and dedication of a number of Yogi Bhajan’s students. Golden Temple Vegetarian Restaurants opened in the United States, Canada and Europe. The rich and spicy aroma of Yogi Tea brewing permeated the environment, and soon customers wanted to brew their own at home. Through these restaurants, the first batches of Yogi Tea were sold to the public.
In 1984, this grassroots endeavor blossomed into the Yogi Tea Company. Packages of the dried spices began to appear in natural foods stores throughout Southern California. Soon, the spices were more finely ground and sold in tea bags, and by 1986, Yogi Tea was distributed nationwide in three flavors. In 1988, Yogi Bhajan and his team of master herbalists expanded the line to address specific health needs by creating highly specialized herbal formulas. In 1991, the company decided it would use organic ingredients. Obstacles immediately arose, as there simply weren’t enough organic herbs and spices available. But following a four-year-long effort, a partnership was formed with ForesTrade to source organic Indonesian cinnamon, the most-used ingredient at the time, and several other spices from community-based organic farms.
Currently, 17 Yogi Teas are certified organic, but all contain organic ingredients in variable proportion. The company sources 63 organic herbs and spices and is always looking for new organic sources as some of the natural healing herbs, oils and extracts used are not yet available organically.
Yogi Teas have continued to evolve, meeting the ever-changing needs of the customer. In 2007, the entire Yogi Tea line is being repackaged and introduced as a collection of newly defined Body, Mind, Spirit product lines. This new way of thinking takes tea beyond a simple beverage and into a way of living.
Each of the more than 50 Yogi Teas is formulated for a different purpose. Whether it’s time to jump start the day, participate in or recover from physical activity, calm the mind and clarify thoughts or revive the spirit and reflect on the world, there’s a Yogi Tea to meet that need.
Yogi Teas are developed and produced at the company’s modern manufacturing facility in Eugene, Oregon. There the highest-quality herbs and spices, expert knowledge of the health benefits of each ingredient and the wisdom of Ayurveda are incorporated into every tea.
Customer Reviews
Awesome tea
This tea is incredible. Mind you I am not an avid tea drinker. I'm more of a coffee person. I bought this tea to alleviate stress and deal with irritability. I was pleasantly surprised to find out it tastes wonderful too. The aroma in itself is calming and the lavender and slight anis flavors are just incredible. It combines the benefits of great flavor, being really calming without putting you to sleep, and easing tummy troubles like bloating and indigestion. It is a truly enjoyable tea. I just bought 6 boxes and am about to stock up on some more.
My favorate tea
I have tried many kinds of herbal teas from different brands. This is my favorite among all the other teas I have ever tried. It is organic, tastes really nice(you have to try it!), and have calming effect. One of the herb used in this tea is gotu kola, I heard gotu kola has an unique vitamin only present in this plant. I take this tea every night before going bed. I feel fully rested in the morning when I get up. I highly recommend this tea.
searching for peace
My anger/tension/irritability is off the scale and I have been trying anything and everything to help myself calm down. I have been using the calming and bedtime teas for the past 2 weeks and I have to say that even though I still get quite mad, I do feel that I have been calmer and not as snappish as I was. The flavors are delicious, especially with honey. I also suffer from gastrointestinal issues and it hasn't really helped in that respect, though....but I'm on some Crohn's level issues. I must say that it has helped with the severe tension headaches that work and kid give me daily, especially when trying to go to sleep. It is nice to be able to use a natural product to help myself with my anger management problems instead of loading up on medications.
