Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly
It's quite possible to have your cake and eat it too, argues dietitian-nutritionist Blum in this bubbly, vivacious approach to living well the healthy way. Avoiding dietary absolutes and encouraging readers to make gradual changes in their eating habits rather than drastic ones (which are often hard to keep up), Blum's sensible guide is sure to resonate with young women. She makes compelling arguments for choosing organic foods-going so far as to list the top 12 most contaminated fruits and vegetables-and extols the virtues of grass-fed meat and dairy. An informative chapter detailing alcohol's specific effects on women (including calorie counts for a long list of beers and cocktails) enable readers to make the most of their nights out without paying for it later. Troubleshooting suggestions offer relief from the symptoms of everything from hangovers and herpes to smoking cessation and premenstrual discomfort. Rounded out with chapters on dietary supplements and depression, as well as a Q&A for frequently asked queries-"What kind of prepared foods (i.e., frozen dinners) are actually good for me?"-Blum's guidebook complete guide to women's health is an encouraging, smart and sisterly volume that deserves a place alongside other trusted go-to resources.

Ladies - we can stop taking ourselves so seriously5
And Esther Blum shows you how.

This fantastic guide gives you helpful and healthful advice on how to balance our diets without hurting ourselves or giving ourselves guilt every time we eat a piece of toast. It's fun, informative and an absolute delight to read. You feel as though Ms. Blum is in your living room (or sitting next to you on a stool during cocktail hour) and talking to you like a friend who knows her way around nutrition.

Thank you Ms. Blum for alleviating my guilt. Now bring me a glass of Cabernet and some Flax Seed Oil!

Excellent Review of Nutrition for Women5
Esther Blum, MS RD has put together a review of the latest findings in nutrition for women in a way that helps them to use the information realistically and enjoyably. I like the fact that for Ms. Blum, pleasure is a nutrient along with all the others: the book does not take a perfectionistic stance that throws so many off making healthy changes. There is also a section devoted to nutritional solutions to health problems that women will love. The book is written in her inimitable, sassy style, and it is one I will be recommending heartily to all the women in my nutrition practice.

sound advice with a fun twist5
I love this book. I'm so sick of looking at diet books that tell me I have to cut out everything enjoyable if I want to look good. The problem with those books are you go on the diet, restrict yourself from all the food you love, lose weight (probably because you're starving yourself), go off the diet, gain the weight back. This book is different. First of all, it's not a diet book. If you want to lose 10 lbs. in 10 days, this book isn't for you. But if you want to learn how to eat healthy so you can have the body you want without going on another diet, then I suggest you check it out. There are great tips on what to eat and how to prepare it, how to drink the occasional cocktail or glass of wine without starving yourself the next day, and what supplements are all about. This book really seems like something you can follow for the rest of your life to be healthy and happy.
