![]() | Punch-Out!!
Buy new: $46.82 / Used from: $29.55 Type of game: Hardcore
I've been a member of GameFly since 2003, and in my personal experience, this is the first time I've seen the aforementioned service drastically underestimate the demand of a game; this title had a low availability status before it was even released! If you own a Wii, you must own Punch-Out!!; no exceptions.
|
![]() | The Conduit
Buy new: $27.99 / Used from: $18.99 Type of game: Hardcore
The Conduit features addictive online play, awesome graphics, and a completely customizable control scheme. Not counting Metroid Prime 3 or Onslaught (WiiWare download), this is currently the best fps to grace the Wii. That being said, if you want to see more games from them in the future, be sure to show your support by purchasing their product.
|
![]() | Klonoa
Buy new: $26.99 / Used from: $13.99 Type of game: Semi-Hardcore
This title is a remake of a classic, PS1 platformer. It has often been regarded as one of the best platformers on the system, and it is has been graphically updated for the Wii.
|
![]() | Overlord: Dark Legend
Buy new: $27.24 / Used from: $20.00 Type of game: Hardcore
Overlord is essentially a Pikmin rip-off with an amoral twist, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. The primary hook of the game is that you have a squad of diabolical creatures at your command, which can be used accomplish various tasks.
|
![]() | Boom Blox Bash Party
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $20.49 Type of game: Casual
This title improves over the original in virtually every area. My one gripe is that there still isn't a mode that allows you to play against other people online; if you're like me, it isn't often that you get to play this game with three other people.
|
![]() | ExciteBots: Trick Racing
Buy new: $26.57 / Used from: $19.99 Type of game: Semi-Hardcore
ExciteBots: Trick Racing is an indirect sequel to ExciteTruck. It allows you to race with mechanized animal incarnations in a variety of different modes; the majority of critics consider this game to be superior to the original, but I don't really care for it.
|
![]() | Samurai Shodown Anthology
Buy new: $29.29 / Used from: $19.98 Type of game: HARDCORE
Samurai Showdown has the distinct honor of being one of the most revered fighting game series ever created; it boasts a solid selection of titles that will have you switching back and forth between the various installments.
|
![]() | Shaun White Snowboarding Road Trip
Buy new: $29.98 / Used from: $19.98 Type of game: Semi-Hardcore
It isn't often that the Wii gets the definitive version of a multi-platform game, but this title is the exception to the rule. To fully enjoy this game you'll need a Wii balance board; by standing on the board you can shift your weight to change direction, and this creates a pretty realistic experience.
|
![]() | Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon
Buy new: $29.63 / Used from: $18.03 Type of game: Hardcore
The story and voice-acting in this game are pretty lame. However, traversing dungeons and leveling up various classes proves to be addictive fun. I'd suggest renting this one first if possible.
|
![]() | SNK Arcade Classics Volume 1
Buy new: $19.99 / Used from: $15.41 Type of game: Hardcore
This collection contains some of the NEO GEO's most popular titles; the price is reasonable when you consider that you get sixteen games on one disc.
|
![]() | Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop
Buy new: $39.99 / Used from: $19.79 Type of game: Hardcore
This is the worst version of Dead Rising available. However, if the Wii happens to be the only current-gen system you own, it's worth trying out.
|
![]() | Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz
Buy new: $15.82 / Used from: $5.99 Type of game: Hardcore
The point of this game is similar to Mercury Meltdown: you guide a monkey trapped within...a hamster ball through an obstacle course in order to reach a goal. It becomes insanely hard later on. If possible, rent it first.
|
![]() | Endless Ocean: Dive, Discover, Dream
Buy new: $149.94 / Used from: $41.75 Type of game: Casual
The point of this game is to photograph/catologue sea life. It'a pretty mellow game, and I'd definitely suggest renting it first.
|
![]() | Excite Truck
Buy new: $62.30 / Used from: $9.97 Type of game: Semi-Hardcore
This is a fun, arcade-style racer; in this title you're not only required to compete for the top position, but you'll also need to pull off a variety of stunts in order to progress through the game.
|
![]() | Official Wii Zapper with Link's Crossbow Training
Buy new: $19.82 / Used from: $9.50 Type of game: Semi-Hardcore
Link's Crossbow Training provides an amusing, arcade-style distraction. The characters and locales are surprisingly faithful to the Twilight Princess aesthetic. Unfortunately, the game doesn't offer much in the way of replay value, the multiplayer is pretty lame, the plastic light gun is really unnecessary, and the game is pretty brief.
|
![]() | Kororinpa: Marble Mania
Buy new: $111.72 / Used from: $31.75 Type of game: Hardcore
Kororinpa: Marble Mania follows the somewhat familiar formula of guiding a spherical, creature-shaped object through an obstacle course whilst collecting gems. It's similar to Super Monkey Ball in that respect, but the sequel is so much of an improvement (it's cheaper too) that it's hard to recommend this game.
|
![]() | Marble Saga Kororinpa
Buy new: $23.79 / Used from: $18.79 Type of game: Hardcore
Marble Saga: Kororinpa has 150 stages; it's prequel only has 40. Marble Saga also has Wii Balance Board functionality, a number of online features, and a level editor. In other words, Marble Saga is vastly superior to its prequel.
|
![]() | Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and Tower of Mirrors
Buy new: $19.49 / Used from: $10.08 Type of game: Semi-Hardcore
Dragon Quest: Swords is unique because it's the first Dragon Quest title that allows you to control your character from a first-person perspective. Rent it first.
|
![]() | Dokapon Kingdom
Buy new: $29.99 / Used from: $23.99 Type of game: Semi-Hardcore
Dokapon Kingdom is essentially a party game with an rpg twist; unfortunately, I found that this game becomes pretty tedious/boring after a while due to the lack of variety; you spend most of your time engaged in paper/rock/scissors combat with enemies and friends. I'm hoping that the sequel will improve enough upon its predecessor to warrant a purchase.
|
![]() | Deadly Creatures
Buy used from: $13.99 Type of game: Hardcore
This game allows you take on the role of the stealthy tarantula and the combat-hardened scorpion. You'll come in contact with numerous creatures such as: snakes, lizards, insects, etc.
|
![]() | Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars
Buy new: $47.99 / Used from: $18.97 Type of game: Hardcore
Mushroom Men is a decent attempt at a platformer; the game's aesthetic is really the highlight of this title.
|
![]() | Samba De Amigo
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $5.69 Type of game: Hardcore
Samba De Amigo is a rhythm action game, and the instrumental gimmicks in question are none other than the maracas.
|
![]() | Manhunt 2
Buy new: $26.44 / Used from: $9.67 Type of game: Hardcore
This is essentially a stealth game where you're tasked with picking off your adversaries in a silent and brutal fashion.
|
![]() | House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return
Buy new: $20.16 / Used from: $11.99 Type of game: Semi-Hardcore
House of the Dead 2 & 3 offers two games at a budget price, but the overall length of the whole package is still pretty short.
|
![]() | Nights Journey of Dreams
Buy new: $13.60 / Used from: $5.85 Type of game: Hardcore
This game doesn't quite measure up the quality of its Sega Saturn predecessor. However, I think I'll let you decide whether it's a flop or not.
|
![]() | Metal Slug Anthology
Buy new: $19.99 / Used from: $10.88 Type of game: Hardcore
Metal Slug is notorious for its insane difficulty, and fans of run-n-gun games will appreciate this collection the most.
|
![]() | Sega Superstars Tennis
Buy new: $15.82 / Used from: $4.68 Type of game: Hardcore
Think of Sega Superstars Tennis as a more in-depth version of the tennis game in Wii Sports.
|
![]() | Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree
Buy new: $19.96 / Used from: $15.99 Type of game: Hardcore
I really don't find this series to be fun; it's intended to sharpen/develop mental skills, but I don't feel that it's executed in a way that makes it entertaining.
|
![]() | Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars
Buy new: $29.99 / Used from: $14.00 Type of game: Hardcore
Broken Sword is a point and click adventure title with plenty of intrigue and mystery to spare.
|
![]() | Pokemon Battle Revolution
Buy new: $43.98 / Used from: $25.99 Type of game: Hardcore
The only real advantage to buying this title is that it allows you to play against online opponents without having to use friend codes. Otherwise, it really doesn't have anything else to offer.
|
![]() | Dewy's Adventure
Buy new: $13.98 / Used from: $5.25 Type of game: Hardcore
As a drop of water, Dewy can alter his physical properties to become ice or mist, which is necessary to solve puzzles and what not. You progress through levels by rolling Dewy around ala Super Monkey Ball. Definitely rent this one first.
|
![]() | Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3
Buy new: $19.82 / Used from: $9.90 Type of game: Semi-Hardcore
I had a decent amount of fun with this game, but I found the combat to be pretty shallow. Also, the online play was extremely laggy for me.
|
![]() | The Munchables
Buy new: $19.99 / Used from: $11.00 Type of game: Semi-Hardcore
I don't know much about the Munchables other than the fact that it's a 3D platformer with an emphasis on eating things sans Pac-Man. Reviews for this game have generally been positive.
|
![]() | New Play Control! Donkey Kong Jungle Beat
Buy new: $16.43 / Used from: $20.00 Type of game: Semi-Hardcore
Although it doesn't play quite as well as the original GameCube title (no bongos), it's still retains most of the fun.
|
![]() | EA SPORTS Grand Slam Tennis
Buy new: $46.99 / Used from: $34.50 Type of game: Semi-Hardcore
Grand Slam Tennis is one of the first games to incorporate the Wii Motion Plus device, but it can also be played without it, which will ultimately work to your disadvantage later in the game.
|
![]() | Ghostbusters: The Video Game
Buy new: $27.99 / Used from: $22.00 Type of game: Hardcore
If you want to play the definitive version of Ghostbusters: The Video Game, I would have to recommend you play it on the 360/PS3. However, if you're intent on playing the Wii version, make sure you bring a bud along for optimum entertainment.
|
![]() | Let's Tap
Buy new: $19.00 / Used from: $14.88 Type of game: Casual
This game just barely ekes out a combined positive rating due to its limited play and is best enjoyed with others. You'll literally be tapping on a box to manipulate on-screen actions.
Update: This game isn't even worth renting, and it definitely isn't worth buying.
|
![]() | Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10
Buy new: $37.99 / Used from: $39.96 Type of game: Semi-Hardcore
I've just recently heard this game being described as the best golf sim ever created; this title takes advantage of the Wii Motion Plus device to create an authentic experience. If you like golf, give it a go.
|
![]() | Resident Evil Archives: Resident Evil
Buy new: $27.99 / Used from: $21.49 Type of game: Hardcore
This title is a lazy port of the GameCube game. The only thing new about it is the title and the Wii motion controls, and the motion controls are poorly implemented. There are countless versions of this game across a variety of systems, so unless you're desperate to play the original on your Wii, I'd suggest skipping this one.
|
![]() | Monster Lab
Buy new: $14.73 / Used from: $12.29 Type of game: Semi-Hardcore
I had practically forgotten about this title. Monster Labs, from what I understand, allows you to customize your own monsters and battle out against competitors. There are also some mini-games thrown in for good measure.
