From the Publisher
Solution-Focused Pastoral Counseling introduces a fresh, effective, and time-saving approach that will benefit pastors overtaxed by counseling demands. Dr. Charles A. Kollar shows that counseling need not be long-term to produce dramatic results. In most cases, the solution lies with the counselees themselves. Pastors, apart from therapists, are well equipped to help the counselees discover it and put it in motion speedily and productively.
Solution-Focused Pastoral Counseling shifts the emphasis from the problem to the strengths, vision, and practical solutions that lie within the individual. Stressing that God is already active in the counselee, Dr. Kollar first lays the theological and theoretical groundwork for short-term counseling. Then he shows how to apply theory to practical, short-term sessions that help people get back on track in their marriage, family living, and other aspects of life.
Kollar recognizes that there is a time to refer to a Christian specialist, but he warns against today's ready-referral mindset. What is generally needed, he believes, is neither professional help nor long-term counseling, but a new paradigm based on Christian identity. Like "new wineskins," Christians are fashioned not for the old wine of problem-oriented therapy, but the new wine of God's life-changing grace.

Old Fluff Dressed In Psycho Jargon Fooling Only the Naive
This book is quixotic at best and harmful at worst. For the inexperienced counselor or pastor, Kollar's three session fix would be attractive to any novice or counselor who lives from one false euphoria to the next. This book helps more counselors than clients. Kollar lampoons other methods while arrogantly stating that his model of therapy is innovative and new with claims that it is the only true biblical model. His Solution-Focused model is far from new; its roots are deep into Milton Erikson's "vague language" and "conversational hypnosis" models of psycho therapy.
If you want a good author on pastoral counseling read Dan Montgomery's books on "Compass Phsychotheology" and "Compass therapy". Well written and well respected. Hope this helps.
Great Focus For Pastoral Counseling
I very much enjoyed the approach this author took to the subject of pastoral counseling. Turning our focus on the solution to the problem and looking for the clues of how the Holy Spirit is already working in the counselee's life is right on target. I plan on using this matterial for many years to come!
Awesome! A little controversial
I really enjoyed this book! At first, it is a little difficult to accept this style. However, I learned a great deal about counseling and how to find the positive in situations. As well as, seeing the power in showing hope to people through finding a positive way through the situation, rather than keeping the person mentaly in their problem. This is a fantastic book.
