Been There Done That
If this were the only (or the first) Sunset book that I purchased, I think that I would have liked it quite a lot. However, I already own several Sunset books and, between these and my magazine subscriptions, I found that I was familiar with almost all of the illustrations. This book rated only 3 stars because the material was rehashed from other publications and seemed stale.
A Good Starting Point
Sunset's Gardening in the Northwest is a fast read full of helpful pointers for do-it-yourself gardeners as well as beginning design students. The plant lists provided are a great beginning point as well, however, the Northwest is a region abundant in extraordinary natives with a climate welcoming to innumerable exotics so readers should not sell themselves short by referencing only one book.
Lots of Pics
This book is loaded with great pictures and has plenty of useful information. There is no table of contents though and that's a bit odd/inconvenient.
