Average customer review:Product Description
This book provides a systematic introduction to the physics of plasma diagnostics measurements. It develops from first principles the concepts needed to plan, execute and interpret plasma measurements, making it a suitable book for graduate students and professionals with little plasma physics background. The book will also be a valuable reference for seasoned plasma physicists, both experimental and theoretical, as well as those with an interest in space and astrophysical applications. This second edition is thoroughly revised and updated, with new sections and chapters covering recent developments in the field.

Editorial Reviews
Review
"This book is an important contribution and should be on the shelves of most plasma physicists...the self contained nature of the chapters and of the referenced source material will make it useful as well to scientists trying to understand the principles behind particular measurements." Science
"...an unusual combination of clarity, physical insight, and mathematical rigor...a pleasure to read, a must for the plasma physicist, and an invaluable addition to any astrophysicist's library." Observatory
"Of the many texts on plasma diagnostics, none are as comprehensive and yet managable as this excellent book by Ian Hutchinson...I highly recommend it, both as a graduate classroom text, and as a reference text for specialists in all branches of plasma physics." La Physique au Canada

broad review of plasma diagnostics
Plasma diagnsotics is very broad and difficult subject. In my case, I understand the concept of Z-Pinch plasma diagnostics with the aid of this book. However, If you have been interested in cold plasma diagnostics, this book is not only good guide book. Very detail descrption will enabel any diagnostics to be possible.
good ol' hutch
A fairly detailed look at the most common plasma diagnostic techniques (reflectometry, Thomson scattering, magnetic probes etc). Doesn't include "advanced" diagnostics such as MSE.
