WHERE to begin and WHY
Fleming's Refresher Guide to Writing is a unique approach to writing improvement, and finally, an approach that works. Typically grammar books (say, Strunk & White's) review the nitpicky specifics of English language (its/it's, your/you're, etc.), while Bill the Goat's guide focuses on the reasoning behind these specifics. It's easier to remember the details if you understand why language works the way it does. Bill the Goat includes the specifics, and can be used as a handbook off the shelf, but perhaps more importantly, works as a book to be read cover-to-cover and internalized. It will help you remember the ways English works, and additionally serves as a guide to the writing process as a whole (where to begin, what to write in which situation). In this sense, even if you're a grammar expert, give Bill a try and see if he can help you in the writing process as a whole. This book is quick and to the point - an excellent refresher course!
