Scholarly, Pertinent.5
Jon Courson combines scholarly analysis with a broad and deep knowledge of Old Testament Types and Symbolism to breathe a new vitality into the New Testament Good News. The common theme is the Gospel of Grace, whereby Christians respond to Jesus' sacrificial love on the cross by inviting Him into their hearts and letting Him finish the work by changing them from the inside out. His self-deprecating and personal style is not only humorous and readable but also timely and pertinent to the struggles we face in our lives. I highly recommend this commentary for those Christians who are striving for maturity in their Christian walk.

I bought this commentary as a result of my CC pastor recommending it as a place to find 'nuggets' of blessing. This is a fine one-volume commentary on the New Testament for the beginning Bible student as well as those looking for some added insights on certain passages.

This is an 'application' commentary, as the name implies, and not an in-depth technical word by word or verse by verse commentary. It is designed to be read at a more devotional level for those interesting in applying the verses to their daily lives.

Jon does not cover each verse in detail and sometimes lumps a few verses together and provides a brief synopsis. This would be my only real complaint. Not all of the 'problem' verses are addressed. I was kind of looking for a bit more, hence the 3- star rating.

But if you are new to studying the New Testament, I would recommend this as a fine compliment to another one-volume commentary, The Believer's Bible Commentary by William MacDonald. With these two hand-in-hand, I believe you'll get a pretty accurate understanding of the verse, added insight and be edified at the same time.

Recommended to those looking to 'flesh-out' other commentaries they may have.

Courson is a great teacher.5
I just love this book. I am thinking about buying a ton of them for Christmas gifts. This book is a great commentary on the New Testament. It has taught me so much, sometimes by pointing out the meanings of the original Greek words, and other time by just bringing things into focus. I am not a long time student of the Bible and reading the Bible alone I have often felt confused or lost. John Courson has really enabled me to focus and thoughtfully consider it as I read. Thank you, John Courson. You have helped make my quiet time a joy rather than a chore!
