Excellent look into local/ overlooked history of LA.
Kielbasa did a fine job of narrating. His in- depth look into the local history of Southern California was impressive. Furthermore, he ties in the people whose names now dot our landscape with the the adobes and ranches that once made up what is now LA County. Flows very smoothly for average reader.
Fantastic Read-brings back memories, Road trip anyone?
When I was younger & in high school, I had the wonderful leisure of visiting & enjoying some of these places, all too often time spent just sitting back and relaxing, simply enjoying the surroundings, just the kinda things kids do when they find a cool place to hang out.. Had I known then what I know now I would have appreciated it so much more and held onto it alot harder, because those moments are long gone, and these treasured places are now in a book that now anyone can enjoy. I delight in the fact that I was able to be in a place that many many years ago was a bustling commerce, someones home that is now a museum or a spot high enough to have a fantstic view, even when a view wasnt considered all so practical, LOL. This book not only took me back with memories that are long gone but still cherished, but this book truly makes for an excellent read, I say that after reading it, you will want to get into your car and say, " I want to see that!" and you can. I know I still do when ever I am in Pedro or LA. Appreciate the time and effort that went into this book a true labor of love by the author, written for those of us that appreciate our cities history and the memories that can be made from the visits to these amazing places, that are more often then not, all but forgotten in todays hustle and bustle. My true thanks for a book I am glad was finally written, that I can read again and again, and hear it in a voice that has never been forgotten.
