Editorial Reviews
From Library Journal
Gerhards, a woodworker and author (e.g., How To Sell What You Make, LJ 2/15/90), takes pains to explain the basic concepts and lingo that underlie all types of construction, with particular focus on the construction of outdoors projects. His discussion of the basics meshes nicely with the 15 projects and associated conversion charts he includes. The lists of materials and techniques, as well as the restrictions a project builder might encounter, are instructive and helpful. The line drawings for each project are clear, well marked, and numerous. This is a good introduction to small home projects. For most large do-it-yourself collections.

From Booklist
A professional woodworker offers concise, easy-to-follow directions for would-be backyard builders. Detailed blueprints and instructions are provided for 15 different projects ranging from the simple to the more complex. In addition to specifications for constructing a variety of playhouses, swing sets, and forts, the author also furnishes a wealth of basic tips on building materials, generic foundations, walls, roofs, conventional framing practices, optional accessories, and finishing touches. A handy, cost-effective guide for parents, grandparents, and novice carpenters. Perfect public library fare. Margaret Flanagan

Customer Reviews
Very good guide to building outdoor play sets.
A very good introduction on constuction. Reviews materials and details methods of building from foundation to roofing. This book also includes detailed plans for fifteen projects for all skill levels. A very good book to use, for the plans or just for the ideas and instructions.
disapointed
the book contained almost no items to build like swing sets, slides monkey bars climbing stuff, great if you want a playhouse, but lacked variety. $16 wasted in my opinion don't recomend buying this book.
It only had about 20 items to build. omly one swing set.
major disapointment.
Informative book
Exactly what I needed for my plans for the backyard. I haven't had a chance to start my projects yet, but this book will help a great deal.
