Editorial Reviews
From School Library Journal
Grade 3-6 An excellent book that will make a fine companion to Hopf's Bats (Dodd, 1985). The scope of Johnson's book is a bit narrower as it does not discuss as many types of bats as Hopf's book. The writing however, is simpler, with easier vocabulary. The color photographs are outstanding. The close-ups of horseshoe bats, particularly those of the babies, are well worth the purchase alone. An excellent diagram accompanies a remarkable description of bat wings. Johnson promotes a positive view of bats as pollinators, seed dispersers and pest controllers. Bats come across as clean, useful, unique mammals. The glossary gives the scientific and common names of bats. For a complete, up-to-date collection on bats, no library should be without this book or the one by Hopf. Elisabeth LeBris, Kenilworth Public School System, Ill.
