Editorial Reviews
Review
“The text is well organized and covers a great deal of sub topics in the areas of health, safety and nutrition. The author writes as if she is speaking to professional caregivers and seems to understand the complexities of running a program for young children.” – Karen Roth, M.A., National-Louis University; Skokie, IL
“I thought the activities at the end of each chapter were interesting ones and provided good reinforcement and practical experience with the concepts being delivered. The Web resources are a definite plus for today’s student.” – Denise M. Binkley, M.Ed., Oklahoma City University; Oklahoma City, OK
“The most impressive features of the textbook are the sections which discuss the implications for caregivers as they reflect the roles and responsibilities of caregivers in relation to chapter topics. Other impressive features are the tables, charts and checklist within the textbook.”- Patricia Weaver, M.Ed., Fayetteville Technical Community College; Fayetteville, NC

Enjoy a healthy meal while doing it safely and nutritionaly!
This is a pager turner from beginning to end. It took me about three and a half hours to read from chapter 1 on. I have a 2 year old daughter and it was a blessing in disguse to find a book that would actually get me to realize what I needed to do to assist myself and daughter to do to get a healthier lifestyle while still enjoying the "no-no's" on occasion. A must read for all those parents that would enjoy even cooking better foods for their family and have time to spare for a sit down meal.
A good place to start learning what is safe and healthy.
My review is based on the 3rd edition of this book. This book was required reading in my early childhood education program. It is a great introduction to what is safe, healty, and nutritious for children. A simple straight forward approach to information about children that every parent and/or caregiver should know.
Great for ideas and does the job
This textbook was required for completing prerequisites to obtain my Early childhood degree. But it was one helluva good book. The chapters were short so it was never overwhelming to read. At the end of each chapter were lesson plans and therein lies the gold at the end of this rainbow. This book is a treasure trove of easy lessons to implement in a preschool early childhood classroom. This is not just a fabulous textbook it is an amazing classroom and center resource.
